We are seeking a dynamic, hands‑on Site Engineer / Project Coordinator (Steel Structure Specialist) to lead the execution of specialized structural steel projects based in Kuching, Sarawak. You will be deeply involved in the daily reality of projects, ensuring technical compliance, managing schedules, coordinating fabricators, and driving site installation.
Review, interpret, and cross‑check structural steel drawings (including Tekla or AutoCAD models) and identify discrepancies early to coordinate with engineers or clients to resolve technical issues
Provide direct, on‑site supervision of steel erection, installation, and heavy lifting activities to ensure all work strictly aligns with engineering specifications and quality benchmarks
Act as the central point of contact between site operations, factory fabricators, and main contractors, tracking delivery timelines for steel components
Manage daily site labour, subcontractors, and welders, monitoring progress against the master schedule and proactively resolving site bottlenecks
Enforce site safety standards and strict adherence to CIDB regulations, welding standards, and method statements
Maintain accurate site diaries, progress photos, and material tracking logs, and assist in preparing documentation for progress claims and variations (VOs)
Degree or Diploma in Civil / Structural Engineering or a related construction field
Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience in the construction industry, preferably within structural steel, metal works, or heavy structural projects
Ability to confidently read and interpret complex structural drawings and architectural plans
Familiarity with steel fabrication processes or welding inspections
Proficiency in AutoCAD and basic project scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project)
Energetic, highly adaptable, and possessing a strong work ethic comfortable in high‑pressure site environments
Based permanently or willing to be stationed entirely at the project site in Kuching, Sarawak with own transport and flexibility to travel locally
