Job summary

JAC Recruitment client in Malaysia seeks a Senior Quantity Surveyor (MEP) to join the project team in Nilai. You will manage commercial and contractual aspects of MEP works, perform cost estimates, manage budgets, and prepare claims.

The role requires a Diploma or Bachelor in QS with strong MEP costing knowledge, experience with main contractors, and good negotiation and stakeholder management skills. Based on site in Nilai.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Quantity Surveying, Building, Construction Management or related discipline.
• Experience in Quantity Surveying, preferably handling MEP/M&E works.
• Experience with main contractor is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of MEP construction works, costing, contracts, VO and final accounts.

Responsibilities

• Manage the commercial and contractual aspects of MEP works throughout the project lifecycle.
• Perform quantity take off and prepare cost estimates for tendering, budgeting and project cost control purposes.
• Source and obtain quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Evaluate quotations and assist in subcontractor/ supplier selection.
• Prepare and monitor project budgets and monthly cost reports.
• Review subcontractors progress claims and final accounts.
• Carry out site measurements and verify completed works.
• Prepare monthly progress claims for submission to clients and manage VO.
• Prepare and negotiate final accounts with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Monitor project costs and highlight potential cost overruns or commercial risks.
• Liaise with project, engineering, design and procurement teams on costing and contractual matters.

Job description

Our client is a well-established international main contractor with a strong presence in Malaysia. In line with their ongoing project requirements, they are currently seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor (MEP) to join their project team in Nilai.

The role will be responsible for the commercial and contractual management of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) works, including cost control, subcontractor management, progress claims, variation orders and final accounts.

Job Responsibilities:

• Manage the commercial and contractual aspects of MEP works throughout the project lifecycle.
• Perform quantity take off and prepare cost estimates for tendering, budgeting and project cost control purposes
• Source and obtain quotations from subcontractors and suppliers
• Evaluate quotations and assist in subcontractor/ supplier selection.
• Prepare and monitor project budgets and monthly cost reports
• Review and evaluate subcontractors progress claims.
• Carry out site measurements and verify completed works
• Review suppliers' invoices and ensure accuracy against purchase orders and completed works
• Prepare monthly progress claims for submission to clients
• Prepare, evaluate and manage variation orders (VO)
• Prepare and negotiate final accounts with clients, subcontractors and suppliers
• Monitor project costs and highlight potential cost overruns or commercial risks
• Liaise closely with the project, engineering, design and procurement teams on costing and contractual matters
• Maintain proper documentation relating to contracts claims, variation and project costs
• Support the project team in achieving the projects commercial and financial objectives

Requirements:

• Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Quantity Surveying, Building, Construction Management or related discipline
• Relevant working experience in Quantity Surveying, preferably handling MEP/M&E works
• Experience working with main contractor will be highly advantageous
• Strong knowledge of MEP construction works, costing, contracts, progress claims, VO and final accounts
• Able to read and understand MEP drawings and technical documents
• Good numerical, analytical and negotiation skills
• Good communication and stakeholder management skills
• Able to work independently with minimum supervision
• Willing to work at the Nilai project site.
