Standard Chartered is seeking a Chapter Lead – Backend to guide a skilled team of engineers while remaining hands-on in designing and building scalable backend solutions. You will mentor staff, drive best practices, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver reliable applications.

The role emphasizes code quality, leadership across squads, and alignment with governance standards, regulatory compliance, and strategic objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of professional Java development experience with backend architecture and API design.
• At least 3 years in a leadership role managing diverse development teams.
• Proficiency in Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate; knowledge of Apache Struts is a plus.
• Exposure to UI performance, accessibility, and responsive design principles.
• Experience with relational databases such as Oracle/MySQL/PostgreSQL and NoSQL like MongoDB/Cassandra.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Strong communication and mentoring skills, and ability to drive strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

• Lead the squad delivery for Java backend components and contribute hands-on to architecture and design.
• Balance skills and capabilities across squads and hives in partnership with stakeholders.
• Evolve craft by driving automation, simplification, and adoption of market trends.
• Embed Change Delivery Standards throughout the product lifecycle and ensure clear role descriptions and feedback.
• Manage capacity, risk, and performance metrics within the Chapter and drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure artefacts and governance deliverables align with standards and policies.
• Promote regulatory compliance and business conduct across the chapter.
• Mentor developers and foster technical growth to meet strategic goals.
