Job summary

Ryt Bank is seeking a Lead Backend Engineer to drive scalable backend systems for Malaysia's digital banking platform. You will shape architecture, mentor engineers, and collaborate across product and domain PODs to deliver reliable, secure, and high-performance services.

We value deep systems thinking, sound technical decisions, and the ability to influence direction while maintaining quality as the product and customer base grow. Five+ years of backend leadership experience is ideal.

Qualifications

• Citizenship requirement: Malaysians only.
• Strong proficiency in Java or other object-oriented programming languages (OOP).
• Strong understanding of messaging systems such as Kafka or equivalent.
• Experience with relational (e.g., PostgreSQL) and non-relational databases.
• Familiarity with designing and consuming web APIs of reasonable complexity.
• Hands-on experience with containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
• At least 7+ years of backend software development experience.

Responsibilities

• Design scalable microservices and event-driven architectures powering digital banking capabilities.
• Define and evolve backend architecture standards, patterns, and best practices.
• Lead technical design discussions and trade-offs across domains.
• Guide teams to build reliable, secure, high-performance systems in production.
• Drive evolutionary design by improving existing systems while delivering new capabilities.
• Mentor engineers, review designs, and elevate technical craftsmanship.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Frontend Engineers, QA, SRE, and Platform teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Lead initiatives to explore emerging architectural patterns and innovative engineering ideas.
