Job summary

Weis is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the contracts management team on a contract basis in Sandakan District, Sabah. You will manage costs, budgets, and contractual agreements throughout project lifecycles, ensuring on-time delivery, budget compliance, and quality.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' professional experience in quantity surveying within the construction industry.
  • Proven expertise in cost estimation, budgeting, and financial management of construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of contract law, procurement practices, and standard form contracts.
  • Proficiency with quantity surveying software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience managing projects of similar scale and complexity in the Malaysian construction sector is highly desirable
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and managing detailed cost estimates, budgets, and financial forecasts for construction projects
  • Conducting quantity take-offs and material measurements from architectural and engineering drawings
  • Managing tender processes, including inviting bids from suppliers and contractors, and evaluating submissions
  • Negotiating contracts and commercial terms with contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Monitoring project expenditure and providing regular financial reports to project stakeholders
  • Managing variations, claims, and changes to contracts whilst maintaining budget control
  • Preparing valuations and interim certificates for payment purposes
  • Conducting site inspections and verifying work quality against contractual specifications
  • Maintaining detailed cost records and project documentation for audit and compliance purposes
  • Liaising between clients, contractors, and internal teams to resolve commercial and financial issues
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant construction regulations, standards, and contractual obligations

About the role

Weis seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our contracts management team on a contract basis. This is a pivotal role within our construction operations, based in Sandakan District, Sabah. As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing costs, budgets, and contractual agreements throughout the lifecycle of construction projects. This position is critical to ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
