The Project Manager – Interior Design is responsible for leading the successful planning, coordination, and delivery of interior design projects from initial concept and design development through construction, completion, and final handover.
The role requires strong project management and interior design knowledge to ensure projects are delivered within approved timelines, budgets, quality standards, and client expectations. The Project Manager will work closely with clients, designers, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to translate design concepts into practical, high-quality, and commercially viable interior spaces.

Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Interior Design, Architecture, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
Minimum 5–8 years of experience in interior design project management, interior fit-out, design & build, commercial interiors, or related industries.
Proven experience managing interior design projects such as retail outlets, F&B outlets, offices, showrooms, hospitality projects, residential developments, commercial spaces, or other interior fit-out projects.
Strong understanding of interior design processes, including concept development, design development, material selection, technical drawings, specifications, detailing, procurement, and site implementation.
Good knowledge of interior fit-out construction methodologies, project scheduling, budgeting, cost control, procurement, and contract administration.
Strong understanding of design coordination and the ability to work with interior designers, architects, M&E consultants, structural consultants, specialist contractors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders.
Good understanding of local authority requirements, building regulations, fire safety requirements, landlord requirements, and relevant statutory and safety standards.
Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, presentation, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver projects within tight deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Microsoft Project or equivalent scheduling software, and project reporting tools. Knowledge of SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, or other design software will be an advantage.
Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with excellent attention to detail.
Creative mindset with a good understanding of design aesthetics, functionality, materials, finishes, and current interior design trends.
Willingness to travel and work at project sites throughout Malaysia as required.
Lead the end-to-end delivery of interior design and interior fit-out projects from project commencement through completion and final handover.
Develop project execution plans, project schedules, design programmes, resource plans, procurement schedules, and key project milestones.
Coordinate the transition from design development to construction and ensure design intent is properly communicated to the project team.
Monitor project progress against approved timelines, budgets, scope, and quality requirements.
Identify potential delays and develop appropriate recovery and mitigation plans.
Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with client requirements, approved designs, specifications, and contractual obligations.
Manage and coordinate the interior design process from concept development through design development, technical documentation, construction, and completion.
Review design concepts, layouts, finishes, materials, details, and technical drawings to ensure they are practical, buildable, and aligned with project requirements.
Coordinate with interior designers, architects, consultants, and specialist contractors to resolve design and technical issues.
Review drawings, specifications, material samples, mock-ups, shop drawings, and material submissions.
Coordinate design revisions and ensure all changes are properly documented, approved, and communicated to relevant stakeholders.
Ensure design decisions are made in accordance with project budget, programme, functionality, and constructability.
Maintain consistency between the approved design concept and the final completed project.
Act as the primary project contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle.
Understand client requirements, design expectations, operational needs, and project objectives.
Conduct project meetings, design coordination meetings, site meetings, and progress presentations as required.
Present design proposals, material selections, samples, mock-ups, progress updates, and project recommendations to clients.
Manage client feedback and ensure comments and revisions are incorporated within agreed project timelines.
Build strong professional relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, landlords, and other stakeholders.
Identify opportunities to enhance client satisfaction and support repeat business.
Coordinate site implementation to ensure works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, design intent, and quality standards.
Work closely with site teams, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth project execution.
Conduct regular site inspections and monitor workmanship, finishes, materials, and installation quality.
Identify and resolve design, technical, coordination, and construction issues in a timely manner.
Coordinate architectural, interior, M&E, lighting, joinery, signage, loose furniture, fixtures, and specialist works where applicable.
Ensure site works are properly coordinated to minimize clashes, rework, delays, and unnecessary costs.
Monitor progress and ensure project milestones are achieved.
Coordinate material and finish selections in accordance with approved design concepts, specifications, budgets, and project schedules.
Review material samples, catalogues, technical data, mock-ups, and supplier proposals.
Coordinate with procurement and suppliers to ensure timely sourcing, production, delivery, and installation of materials and furnishings.
Evaluate alternative materials and suppliers where required while maintaining the intended design quality.
Monitor long-lead items and implement appropriate procurement strategies to avoid project delays.
Ensure materials delivered to site meet approved specifications and quality requirements.
Monitor project budgets, expenditures, commitments, and cash flow throughout the project lifecycle.
Review quotations, supplier proposals, subcontractor costs, variation orders, progress claims, and payment recommendations.
Work closely with the Commercial and Procurement teams to achieve cost-effective project delivery.
Identify cost-saving and value-engineering opportunities without compromising the overall design intent, quality, or functionality.
Monitor the financial impact of design changes and client instructions.
Ensure variations and additional works are properly documented, priced, approved, and tracked.
Ensure all design and construction works meet the required quality standards and approved specifications.
Identify project risks relating to design, procurement, cost, programme, construction, and client requirements.
Develop and implement appropriate risk mitigation measures.
Ensure compliance with applicable building regulations, authority requirements, fire safety requirements, landlord guidelines, and company standards.
Conduct quality inspections and coordinate defect identification, rectification, and close-out.
Ensure proper testing, commissioning, documentation, and handover are completed.
Prepare and maintain weekly and monthly project reports covering design progress, construction progress, budget status, procurement, key issues, risks, and mitigation plans.
Maintain project schedules, drawing registers, material approval records, RFI records, variation records, meeting minutes, and other project documentation.
Monitor project KPIs relating to programme, cost, quality, client satisfaction, and project delivery.
Ensure timely submission and approval of drawings, samples, materials, shop drawings, and other project documentation.
Maintain proper records of client instructions, design changes, approvals, and contractual correspondence.
Coordinate project completion, snagging, defect rectification, and final inspections.
Ensure all outstanding works and defects are closed within the agreed timeline.
Coordinate preparation of as-built drawings, warranties, operation and maintenance manuals, certificates, and other handover documents where applicable.
Coordinate final client inspection and handover.
Ensure the project is properly closed out in accordance with company procedures and contractual requirements.
Lead and coordinate interior designers, project coordinators, site supervisors, contractors, and other project team members.
Mentor and guide junior designers, project coordinators, and site personnel.
Promote effective communication and collaboration between design, commercial, procurement, and site teams.
Support the tender and pre-construction teams by providing technical, design, planning, and project execution input.
Participate in project presentations, design proposals, tender reviews, and client meetings where required.
Recommend improvements to interior design, project management, procurement, and construction processes.
