Job summary

Arup Malaysia is seeking an experienced control systems professional to develop HVAC control equipment designs and BMS integration for complex building projects. You will coordinate HVAC controls, review vendor submissions, and work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure system performance meets project requirements.

The role focuses on delivering high-quality control solutions for commercial facilities, data centres, healthcare and laboratories, with opportunities to contribute to energy-saving

Qualifications

  • Requires a relevant engineering degree (Control/Instrumentation, Mechatronics or Mechanical).
  • 4–7 years of experience in control systems, building services or industrial automation.
  • Experience delivering control systems for commercial buildings, data centres, healthcare or labs is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop HVAC control equipment designs and specifications (BMS/EPMS points, I/O schedules, control schematics, network architecture).
  • Coordinate controls requirements for HVAC systems (chillers, CRAHs, AHUs, FCUs, pumps, towers).
  • Review vendor control submissions and shop drawings for compliance.
  • Integrate BMS/EPMS with other building systems with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support various testing and commissioning activities and troubleshoot issues.

As an engineer, you will aim to develop key knowledge and skills that will allow you to provide a high quality of consultant services. This may take the form of undertaking relevant modelling, analytical research, and design work within your relevant business area. The Opportunity
  • Develop HVAC control equipment designs and specifications, including BMS and EPMS points schedules, I/O schedules, control schematics, network architecture and system layouts.
  • Coordinate controls requirements for HVAC systems, including chillers, chilled water plants, CRAHs, AHUs, FCUs, pumps, cooling towers, pressurisation systems and ventilation systems.
  • Review vendor control submissions, shop drawings and control logic to confirm compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate the integration of BMS, EPMS, Fire Alarm Systems, DCIM and other building systems with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Support Software Acceptance Tests, Factory Acceptance Tests, Site Acceptance Tests, Integrated Systems Testing, commissioning and witnessing activities.
  • Assist with troubleshooting control system issues during construction and commissioning, and prepare technical reports, design documentation and as-built records.
  • Develop energy-saving control strategies in accordance with MS 1525, LEED and the Green Building Index, and develop high-level sequence concepts for graphical user interface pages.

Is this role right for you?
  • Relevant Degree in Control and Instrumentation Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 4–7 years of experience in control systems, building management systems, industrial automation or building services engineering.
  • Experience delivering control systems for commercial buildings, mission-critical facilities, healthcare, laboratories or data centres is highly desirable
  • Working knowledge of BMS platforms such as Siemens, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Delta Controls or Tridium Niagara.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols, including BACnet, Modbus, OPC UA, DMX and MQTT.
  • Understanding of data centre infrastructure, redundancy concepts and mission-critical operations is advantageous.
  • Membership of relevant professional institutions or professional peer bodies, or significant progress towards eligibility for membership.
