Job summary

Arup Malaysia seeks an experienced Civil Engineering leader to deliver consultancy services for infrastructure projects and mentor junior engineers.

You will lead planning, design, and execution of earthworks, roads, drainage, water reticulation, and sewerage, while ensuring compliance with standards and timely delivery.

Qualifications

  • Recognised tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or similar.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant Civil Engineering experience.
  • Experience on medium-to-large infrastructure projects in a consulting environment.
  • Experience includes earthwork, roads, drainage, water reticulation and sewerage.
  • Proficient in MS Office, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MiTS, HEC-RAS/HEC-HMS; able to guide juniors.

Responsibilities

  • Meet deadlines and monitor budgets to meet financial targets.
  • Represent Arup at events; design and deliver events and projects.
  • Provide guidance, training, and feedback to team members.
  • Project manage small to medium projects and delegate tasks.
  • Lead civil design for infrastructure projects and client engagement.
  • Develop compliance strategies for projects and authorities submissions.
  • Prepare reports and technical papers with clear structure and accuracy.
  • Collaborate across disciplines ensuring design standards and safety compliance.
  • Prepare construction plans and specifications; monitor progress and QA.
  • Lead pavement condition assessments and pavement management plans.
  • Plan and oversee civil engineering projects with strong PM focus.
  • Conduct site investigations and geotechnical assessments; design earthworks/roads/drainage.
  • Develop detailed design management plans, schedules, and budgets.

Primary Focus

Provide consultancy engineering services to clients of Arup Malaysia. Collaboratively support the development of less experienced engineers within the group.

The Opportunity
  • The role is responsible for meeting deadlines and may be required to monitoring budges and control expenditure to meet financial targets in its own area.
  • Represent Arup at internal and external events and this role may be responsible for designing and delivering events, activities and projects which impact the business.
  • Responsible for the performance and development of others through providing guidance, training, direction and feedback.
  • Project manage small to medium sized projects, delegating and managing tasks of junior team members.
  • Lead the planning and designing in Civil for infrastructure projects, demonstrating expertise in civil engineering design.
  • Lead design, manage investigations, and foster client relationships. Provide insights based on thorough analyses, contribute to project development, and engage in multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Take the lead in developing compliance strategies and action plans for specific projects or departments, contributing to the overall compliance efforts of the organization focusing on infrastructure submission to authorities and stakeholders
  • Develop comprehensive reports, documents, and technical papers, prioritizing logical organization and clarity. Conduct in-depth research, data analysis, and meticulous fact-checking to ensure report accuracy. Collaborate effectively with subject matter experts to gather valuable insights and content. Pay close attention to report structure, format, and adherence to style guidelines
  • Collaborate closely with other disciplines, ensuring strict compliance with design standards and safety regulations. Prepare detailed infrastructure construction plans and specifications while monitoring construction progress and providing technical support.
  • Lead the assessment of pavement conditions and performance, conducting field inspections and comprehensive testing, and taking ownership of the development of pavement management plans and rehabilitation strategies.
  • Lead the planning and oversight of civil engineering projects, demonstrating expertise in project management and civil engineering
  • Conduct site investigations, geotechnical assessments, and comprehensive feasibility studies, and take ownership of designing civil infrastructure, including but not limited to earthwork, road, drainage, water reticulation and sewerage
  • Develop detailed design management plans, advanced schedules, and budgets. Take ownership of monitoring design progress and conducting comprehensive quality assurance
Is this role right for you?
  • Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or similar area.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in Civil Engineering works.
  • Relevant industry experience in medium-to-large infrastructure projects within a consulting business environment.
  • Relevant experience includes but not limited to earthwork, road, drainage, water reticulation, sewerage, etc.
  • Proficiency in using software includes but not limited to Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point), Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D, MiTS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, Blue Beam, etc. Must be able to guide juniors and read the software output even the design is by others.
  • Proven working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and guidelines
  • Ability to communicate clearly and adapt interpersonal style to connect with diverse stakeholders, fostering open dialogue and collaboration.
  • Proven ability to uphold high standards in work, meticulously reviewing all aspects to ensure accuracy and completeness.
