Job summary

Arup Malaysia is seeking a Renewable Energy Engineer to design electrical systems for solar PV plants, energy storage, and substations across Malaysia and the region. You will perform design reviews, due diligence, and support bid preparation while mentoring junior engineers.

The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical engineering background with renewable energy project experience, proficient in PVsyst and HomerPro, and familiar with codes and regulations affecting energy projects in

Qualifications

• Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in renewable energy, preferably solar PV in a consulting environment.
• Proficient with PVsyst and HomerPro.
• Membership of professional institutions or credits towards eligibility for membership.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineering of solar PV plants, BESS and HV substations in Malaysia and region.
• Review electrical drawings for compliance with standards and project specs.
• Conduct technical due diligence to assess feasibility, risks and performance.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers; promote knowledge sharing and training.
• Contribute to bids, proposals and client engagement for new projects.
• Represent the team in meetings and external discussions to communicate engineering solutions.

We are looking for a Renewable Energy Engineer to support our Malaysia and regional Energy Team in delivering renewable energy and low‑carbon technology projects.

The Opportunity

The role involves electrical engineering design, technical analysis, specification documentation, and project bid preparation. You will contribute to project delivery across all stages, from pre‑feasibility studies and concept design to detailed design.

• Work independently within a defined scope, contributing to the design and engineering of solar power plants, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and high‑voltage substations across Malaysia and the region.
• Perform design reviews of electrical drawings, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications.
• Conduct technical due diligence for renewable energy projects, assessing feasibility, risks, and technical performance to support investment decisions.
• Ensure the quality and accuracy of your work while reviewing and providing guidance on the work of others. Support the professional development of junior engineers through mentorship, training, and feedback.
• Contribute to project development and execution, including system design, technical documentation while meeting project deadlines and budgets.
• Support business development efforts by contributing to proposals, bids, and client engagement for new project opportunities.
• Represent the team in external meetings, stakeholder engagements, and technical discussions, ensuring effective communication of engineering solutions.
• Participate in internal initiatives and knowledge‑sharing activities, contributing to continuous improvement and innovation within the team.

The ideal candidate has a strong electrical engineering background and experience in renewable energy projects.

Qualifications & Experience

• Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or related area;
• Relevant industry experience and technical knowledge in the renewable energy sector, preferably in solar PV within a consulting business environment with 3-6 years of experience;
• Well verse with the relevant engineering software such as PVsyst and HomerPro;
• Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies or significant credit towards eligibility for membership;
• Proven working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and guidelines

Skills & Attributes

• Ability to communicate with people at all levels in both technical and non‑technical environments;
• Effective written communication and report writing skills;
• Ability to maintain personal effectiveness particularly during periods of higher‑than‑normal workload;
• Ability to remain positively motivated and foster team spirit at times of significant pressure, including assisting others to meet deadlines;
• Desire to excel.
