Job summary

KIDE INTERNATIONAL SDN BHD is seeking a Mechanical Construction Manager to lead the overall mechanical construction on the project, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and budget adherence.

You will supervise Mechanical Engineers, subcontractors and site teams, coordinate with design consultants, plan programmes, monitor progress, resolve clashes, and drive commissioning activities to project handover.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, with professional registration preferred.
• 8–12 years of relevant mechanical construction experience on large projects.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and related systems.

Job Summary

The Mechanical Construction Manager is responsible for the overall planning, management, coordination, supervision, and execution of mechanical construction activities for the assigned project.

The position provides leadership to Mechanical Engineers, supervisors, subcontractors, and site teams while ensuring mechanical works are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, contractual requirements, and statutory regulations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Overall Mechanical Construction Management

• Take overall responsibility for mechanical construction activities on the project.
• Plan, coordinate, supervise, and monitor all mechanical works.
• Ensure construction activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and project requirements.
• Establish construction priorities and coordinate work sequences.
• Ensure mechanical works progress according to the approved master programme.
• Provide leadership and technical direction to the mechanical construction team.
• Monitor site productivity and construction performance.
• Resolve technical and construction issues promptly.

2. Project Planning & Scheduling

• Develop and manage detailed mechanical construction programmes (MS Project).
• Establish project milestones and installation targets.
• Coordinate mechanical activities with the overall project programme.
• Monitor planned versus actual progress.
• Identify delays, constraints, and critical activities.
• Develop recovery plans where required.
• Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractor resources.
• Ensure adequate resources are available to meet project deadlines.

3. Subcontractor Management

• Manage mechanical subcontractors and specialist contractors.
• Review subcontractor work programmes and manpower deployment.
• Monitor subcontractor performance, productivity, and quality.
• Ensure subcontractors comply with project requirements.
• Conduct regular coordination meetings with subcontractors.
• Resolve subcontractor technical and commercial issues in coordination with the project management team.
• Verify subcontractor progress and work completion.
• Ensure subcontractors maintain proper documentation and records.

4. Technical & Engineering Coordination

• Review mechanical drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and technical submissions.
• Coordinate with consultants and design teams regarding technical matters.
• Resolve design discrepancies, clashes, and constructability issues.
• Ensure coordination between mechanical, electrical, architectural, structural, and civil works.
• Review method statements and risk assessments.
• Provide technical direction to Mechanical Engineers and site supervisors.
• Ensure design changes are properly communicated and implemented.

5. Mechanical Systems

Oversee construction and installation of applicable systems such as:

• HVAC.
• Chilled water systems.
• Mechanical ventilation.
• Plumbing and sanitary systems.
• Pumps and water systems.
• Mechanical equipment.
• Drainage systems.
• Compressed air systems.
• Building services systems.
• Specialist mechanical systems.

6. Quality Management

• Ensure all mechanical works meet project quality standards.
• Establish inspection and quality control procedures.
• Review inspection and test plans.
• Monitor workmanship and installation quality.
• Coordinate inspections with consultants and clients.
• Ensure non-conformities are identified and rectified.
• Monitor testing and commissioning activities.
• Ensure all quality documentation is properly maintained.
• Lead the planning and execution of mechanical testing and commissioning.
• Coordinate testing activities with consultants, clients, authorities, and specialist contractors.
• Ensure systems are tested according to approved procedures.
• Coordinate troubleshooting and rectification.
• Ensure all defects and punch-list items are closed.
• Oversee preparation of as-built drawings, O&M manuals, test reports, warranties, and handover documentation.
• Monitor mechanical construction costs and resource utilization.
• Assist in controlling manpower, materials, plant, and subcontractor costs.
• Identify potential variations and additional works.
• Coordinate with the commercial/QS team regarding variations and claims.
• Verify work progress and completion for payment purposes.
• Minimise material wastage and unnecessary costs.

9. Safety Management

• Ensure all mechanical construction activities are conducted safely.
• Participate in risk assessments and method statement reviews.
• Ensure proper permits and safe work procedures are followed.
• Conduct site inspections and safety briefings.
• Ensure subcontractors comply with safety requirements.
• Investigate and report incidents when required.
• Promote a strong safety culture within the mechanical team.
• Attend project, technical, progress, coordination, daily, weekly construction meetings.
• Act as the key mechanical construction representative during site coordination.
• Maintain effective relationships and communication with clients, consultants, contractors, and authorities.
• Provide regular updates on progress, risks, delays, technical issues, and required decisions.
• Respond promptly to technical queries and site instructions.
• Ensure timely response and communication (email, letter and etc) with Clients, Consultants, Stakeholder and relevant parties to protect the Company’s interests.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Professional Engineer/Ir. status or relevant professional registration will be an advantage.
• Minimum 8–12 years of relevant mechanical construction experience, depending on project requirements.
• Strong experience in managing large-scale mechanical construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, mechanical services, and relevant systems.
• Experience managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary site teams.
• Strong knowledge of construction planning, quality control, testing, and commissioning.
• Good knowledge of Malaysian construction standards and statutory requirements.
• Strong leadership, communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, MS Project, AutoCAD and relevant construction/project management software.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
