Job summary

FOOM Sdn. Bhd. in Johor Bahru is hiring a junior bartender. No bar experience needed; you will learn the drinks prep system from us and progressively take on more responsibilities as you pass each stage.

Responsibilities include prep, batching, serving behind the bar, maintaining stock, counting deliveries, and a proper close each night. A probation period applies, with overtime paid after 45 hours.

Job description

We're hiring a junior bartender. No bar experience needed.

FOOM is a cocktail and tea lounge in Taman Pelangi, Johor Bahru, open in the evenings. Many of our guests come over from Singapore, and a lot of them keep coming back.

What the bar does

Our drinks start in the prep kitchen, off-peak: sous-vide infusions, clarification, cordials, fat-washing and foams. At service they are finished at the bar, every pour measured. Tea is served from the bar too.

The specs and the prep system are already written down. You learn them from us, one step at a time.

The job

Prep and batching before service, to the written spec, logged as you make it.

Service behind the bar next to our bartender. Some weeks you open (4:30pm to 12:30am, earlier on Sundays), some weeks you close (6:30pm to 2:30am).

Keep the bar stocked: ice, glassware, garnish and the washing.

Stock counts, receiving deliveries and a clean close every night.

Once you've passed every stage, you run the bar on your own on the other bartender's rest day.

What you get

RM2,300 a month basic, plus EPF, SOCSO and EIS

A monthly performance bonus once you pass probation, paid on your own results

RM80 food allowance for every week worked, paid in cash

One full rest day every week. Overtime paid past 45 hours.

8 days annual leave, 14 days sick leave, and a replacement day off for every public holiday you work

Typhoid and food handler certificates: if you don't have them, we pay for your first set

Three-month probation. Seven days' notice either way during probation, one month after.

Who can apply

21 and over. Malaysian citizens and permanent residents. You can work late and get home after 2:30am.

Work in a cafe, restaurant or kitchen helps, but it isn't needed. What we can't teach is turning up. Be there for every shift you're rostered for, and if you can't, tell us at least two hours before.
