Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assess customer machines and design the hardware architecture for each installation, including BOMs.
• Troubleshoot legacy video and human interface connections (VGA, PS/2) and diagnose signal issues.
• Check connector pinouts, cable continuity, grounding, power, video timing, and signal compatibility with test equipment.
• Integrate machine signals with industrial IoT gateways, sensors, or edge devices; support data collection and networking.
• Contribute to automation workflow development from manual processes to automated solutions.
• Collaborate with customer engineers, equipment vendors, and internal teams to reproduce issues and test fixes.
• Design hardware architecture diagrams and prepare interface records, test results, BOMs, and service reports.

Job description

Role Overview

We are seeking a hands on Automation Engineer who can diagnose and resolve equipment interface issues in customer facilities. A key part of the job is connecting older machines to modern displays, KVM systems, and industrial IoT solutions without disrupting normal equipment operation. The right person can trace a fault from connector and cable through signal, adapter, KVM, computer, and application, then document a reliable fix.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess customer machines and design the hardware architecture for each installation. Define the required computers, gateways, capture devices, KVMs, converters, cables, power, network connections, and mounting hardware; check compatibility and prepare a full hardware architecture diagram and bill of materials before setup.
• Troubleshoot legacy video and human interface connections, including VGA and PS/2 keyboard or mouse paths. Diagnose missing, unstable, or incompatible signals when equipment is connected through adapters, extenders, or KVM switches.
• Check connector pinouts, cable continuity, grounding, power, video timing and resolution, and signal compatibility using appropriate test equipment and vendor documentation. Select and validate suitable cables, converters, and KVM equipment.
• Integrate machine signals and data with industrial IoT gateways, sensors, or edge devices. Support basic data collection, network connectivity, and communication between shop floor equipment and software teams.
• Contribute to automation workflow development, from understanding a manual process to testing and improving an automated solution. This is an opportunity for candidates interested in growing this skill.
• Work with customer engineers, equipment vendors, and internal software and IoT colleagues to reproduce issues, test fixes, and complete site acceptance.
• Design a full hardware architecture diagram for each project and prepare interface records, test results, bills of materials, and service reports. Follow site safety, change control, and equipment access procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Must be legally eligible to work in Malaysia without the need for a work pass or visa sponsorship.
• Diploma or degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related engineering field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of hands on experience in automation, equipment integration, field service, or industrial electronics.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical and computer interface problems systematically with a multimeter, cable tester, oscilloscope, or equivalent tools as appropriate.
• Practical familiarity with legacy computer interfaces such as VGA, PS/2, serial ports, and their adapters or KVM connections; able to investigate compatibility issues rather than assume a cable swap will solve them.
• Basic understanding of industrial IoT concepts, including sensors, gateways, Ethernet or TCP/IP networking, and collecting data from machines.
• Comfortable reading wiring diagrams and technical manuals, communicating with customers, and performing hands on work at customer sites.
• Excellent command of English is required, with proficiency in Chinese as a strong plus to support our world-class, global client base.
• Willingness to travel locally and internationally to support or assits in regional project.

Preferred Experience

• Exposure to semiconductor fab equipment, cleanroom practices, or other older production machines with limited or nonstandard interfaces.
• Familiarity with industrial protocols such as Modbus, RS 232 or RS 485, OPC UA, or MQTT.
• Experience with video signal conversion, EDID or display timing issues, KVM extenders, and legacy keyboard or mouse emulation.
• Basic scripting or embedded prototyping with Python, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or similar tools.
