Job summary

Jumbo Grocer (Sibu) Sdn Bhd, a leading grocery retailer in Sibu, is seeking an Account Assistant to join the finance team full-time in Sibu, Sarawak. The role supports accurate financial record-keeping and compliance with accounting standards.

You will process transactions, assist with monthly reports and payroll, and help manage accounts payable and receivable while maintaining organised records and meeting deadlines.

Qualifications

• Diploma or equivalent qualification in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• Experience as Accounts Officer/Clerk in retail or commercial environment.
• Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel for data entry and analysis.
• Good written and verbal English and Bahasa Malaysia.

Responsibilities

• Record and process financial transactions including invoices and receipts.
• Maintain ledgers and financial records accurately.
• Reconcile bank statements and resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Assist with monthly financial reports and reconciliations.
• Support payroll data processing and salary administration.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable and chase payments.

About the role
We are seeking an Account Assistant to join our finance team on a full-time basis in Sibu, Sarawak. This role is essential to our accounting operations, providing vital support to ensure accurate financial record-keeping and compliance with accounting standards. As an Account Assistant, you will play a crucial part in maintaining the financial health of the organisation and supporting our wider team in delivering reliable financial information.

Key responsibilities

• Recording and processing financial transactions, including invoices, receipts and payment documents
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date accounts ledgers and financial records
• Reconciling bank statements and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner
• Assisting with the preparation of monthly financial reports and reconciliations
• Processing payroll data and supporting salary administration tasks
• Managing accounts payable and receivable functions, including chasing outstanding payments
• Filing and organising financial documents in accordance with company procedures
• Supporting the senior accounting team with month-end and year-end closing procedures
• Responding to financial queries and providing supporting documentation as required

What we're looking for

• Diploma or equivalent qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related field
• Proven experience as an Accounts Officer, Accounts Clerk or similar accounting role, preferably within a retail or commercial environment
• Strong proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel for data entry and financial analysis
• Solid understanding of basic accounting principles, general ledger management and financial record-keeping procedures
• Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks effectively
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia
• Familiarity with retail accounting practices and point-of-sale systems is advantageous
