Job Purpose
The LATAM Broadcast & Other Media Buyer will play an essential role on our in-house media team to strategize, build and execute large-scale media campaigns and tests that deliver on our strategy for business growth. While the primary focus of this role will be for broadcast media buying (Television and Radio), this role will also include some OOH buying and Direct Digital buying. This role will be responsible for creating and delivering best-in-class performance in the broadcast channel across the LATAM Region, with a large focus on Mexico. This role will collaborate with management and team members to strategize and plan, oversee, and execute day-to-day campaign activities as it relates to broadcast media partners, as well as some minimal OOH and direct digital. The role will deliver reporting, insights and projects in a timely manner and within budget, supporting the team with flawless execution. The role will also be responsible for auditing partners to ensure delivery of our buys and will be responsible for staying very on top of marketplace trends to negotiate the best possible pricing for Valvoline Global, and ensure our advertising is running with partners who will deliver the best reach of our target audience. This role will be a key player in driving both volume of sales and maximizing profitability. This role will shape broadcast strategy and execution in LATAM for Valvoline, the fastest growing lubricants brand in the Americas, and is a role that is considered pivotal to the ongoing growth for the company.
How You Make an Impact (Job Accountabilities)
- Media Buying and Negotiation: Identify and negotiate with media vendors, including digital, print, broadcast, and out-of-home channels, to secure cost-effective and impactful media placements. Build industry relationships to negotiate favorable rates and added value. Independently negotiate media campaigns directly with sales representatives. Execute all relevant revisions to the media buys. Explore promotional or value-added opportunities where applicable. Oversee all contracting and track all changes with a high level of accuracy. Maintain all broadcast traffic instructions and broadcast clearance flawlessly.
- Campaign Planning and Execution: Plan media campaigns across various platforms, ensuring that all placements are executed flawlessly. Manage media budgets effectively and allocate resources to maximize ROI. Monitor campaign performance and adjust strategies as needed. Strategize, plan and execute Broadcast media campaigns (as well as OOH and some direct digital). Develop a media schedule that satisfies campaign parameters and brand objectives. Proactively advise the team of any variations to execution of media plans.
- Budget Management: Responsible for managing media budgets, ensuring that campaigns are delivered within budgetary constraints. Provide regular financial reporting and analysis to stakeholders. Keep pace of our media performance on a daily basis. Ensure media leadership is aware of trends (negative and/or positive) as well as any anomalies or issues. Conduct third party audits as required. Prepare and present pre-buy/post-buy reports. Communication to greater marketing organization, global teams and leadership about performance of media campaigns and expected impacts on business.
- Compliance and Reporting: Ensure that media campaigns adhere to industry regulations and standards. Generate comprehensive reports on media performance. Keep pace with Broadcast & OOH media industry trends and developments. Recommend new technologies, channels, partners or other opportunities for testing to maximize Broadcast & OOH investments. In partnership with manager, lead the evaluation or cost value analysis of sponsorships and integrations.
- Vendor Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with media vendors and partners. Stay informed about competitor strategies, emerging media platforms, industry trends and negotiate advantageous terms for media placements. Responsible for solving and clearing billing discrepancies/queries, and managing the LATAM broadcast & OOH budgets flawlessly, as well as for any direct digital IOs.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams, including creative, marketing, and analytics, to ensure that media campaigns align with overall marketing strategies. Provide clear communication of campaign objectives and performance. Assist manager with OOH planning, negotiating and contracting, as well as direct digital buying in an as-needed basis. Recommend key locations for OOH in the region.
- Daily contact with NA Media Strategy & Operations Lead, Americas Paid Media Traders & Americas Paid Media Analytics. Regular contacts with the LATAM marketing teams, Valvoline Global Brand Equity Team and Americas Leadership. Maintain the relationship with LATAM Media partner contacts i.e. Televisa, Azteca, etc, with the objective of assuring Valvoline Global Products strategies and tactics are executed with best practices and winning vs competition. Adept at communicating with people across borders, especially the US and Mexico, but also across all parts of LATAM (Central and South America). Fully fluent in English (both written and spoken).
What You Bring to the Role (Job Qualifications / Education / Skills / Requirements / Capabilities)
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Minimum of 8 years’ work experience in media, with at least 6 of those years specifically buying TV and Radio in Mexico.
- Must have worked in a fast-paced, data-driven, performance-minded environment (example: media agency or in-house media buying team who is managing a large volume of broadcast buys)
- Skill mastery in buying TV and Radio required.
- Skill mastery in buying local and national broadcast media In Mexico required.
- A proven track record of negotiation success.
- Preference will be given to any candidates with experience in direct digital buying and/or OOH buying.
- Preference will be given to any candidates with experience buying across other countries in LATAM.
- Strong understanding of the broadcast landscape (national and local, TV and Radio) in Mexico required.
- Must be fluent in English, both written and spoken.
- Proven track record of successfully working in and collaborating across a remote working environment.
- Knowledge of the broadcast clearance and trafficking processes in Mexico required.
- Strong relationships with broadcast media sellers in Mexico required, and ideally across LATAM.
- Loves the art of the negotiation.
- Excellent written and verbal presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex marketplace concepts into actionable business insights for non-technical audiences. Experience presenting is an asset.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills – a demonstrated ability to mine data for relevant and actionable insights
- Experience in a cross-functional team environment with agency experience a big plus
- Client service oriented. Strong client/key stakeholder management/consultative experience with both presenting and resolving issues
- Able to cultivate excellent relationships with new media partners
