Job summary

Global Payments in Mexico City seeking a Virtualization Engineer (entry to mid level) to join our IT team in a hybrid setup. You will install, configure, and manage VMware ESXi, vCenter, and virtual machines, ensuring secure, reliable operations and efficient resource use.

You will automate tasks with PowerShell or Bash, monitor performance, apply patches, and collaborate with security, networking, and systems teams. Advanced English is required to communicate with global partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
• Practical experience in virtualization roles is acceptable in lieu of formal education.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, networking, storage management.

Ready to take your career global? Make your mark at one of the biggest names in payments. We’re looking for a Virtualization Engineer (entry to mid level role) to join our ever evolving IT team in Mexico (hybrid) and help shape the future of global commerce.

What you’ll own

• Installing and configuring virtualization software: Deploying and configuring VMware ESXi hypervisors, vCenter servers, and virtual machines, as well as managing virtual networking and storage resources.
• Managing virtual servers: Monitoring and managing virtual servers, including provisioning, configuring, and troubleshooting virtual machines to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Implementing virtualization security: Implementing security best practices for virtualized environments, such as access controls, encryption, and intrusion detection, to protect against cyber threats and ensure data confidentiality.
• Performing system upgrades and patches: Applying software updates, patches, and upgrades to virtualization software, operating systems, and applications to maintain system stability and security.
• Automation and scripting: Developing scripts and automation tools using PowerShell, Bash, or other scripting languages to streamline routine tasks, automate processes, and improve operational efficiency.
• Troubleshooting and problem-solving: Diagnosing and resolving technical issues related to virtualized infrastructure, network connectivity, performance bottlenecks, and system failures to minimize downtime and ensure system availability.
• Collaboration and communication: Collaborating with IT teams, system administrators, network engineers, and security specialists to ensure seamless integration of virtualized environments with other technologies and systems.
• Providing technical support and training to end users as needed.
• Participating in an on-call support rotation for escalations within the team as needed.
• May require rotating 24x7 on-call support responsibility as well as weekend support.

What you’ll bring

• A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. Practical experience in the role can be used in place of formal education.
• Knowledge of multiple operating systems and related utilities and hardware
• Knowledge of storage management, TCP/IP, network monitoring and tools and technical writing principles and practices
• Effective analytical, problem solving, installation and maintenance skills
• Ability to work independently as well as within a team
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, vendors, clients and public
• Advanced level of English
