Nextpower in Mexico City is seeking a Structural Engineer I to join the Project Engineering Team. The role supports utility-scale PV projects with wind and seismic analysis, coordinating with teams in the US, India, and other offices.

Hybrid work entails in-office 3 days/week and 2 days remote. The ideal candidate has 2+ years in structural engineering, a Civil/Structural degree, strong design and documentation skills, and fluency in English to engage with global clients and teams.

Formación

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 2 years of experience in structural engineering, preferably in EPC solar industry.
  • Hands-on experience in structural analysis and design: dead, live, wind, seismic loads; steel/concrete design; construction documents.
  • Strong knowledge of international codes (IBC, ASCE, ASTM, AISC, AISI, ACI).
  • Proficiency in Excel, AutoCAD, and LPile/AllPile or equivalent.
  • Finite element software such as RISA-3D, STAAD.Pro, OpenSees, or equivalent.
  • Desirable: advanced modal and dynamic analysis; programming with Python.
  • Team-focused, self-motivated, good communication and collaboration.
  • Fluency in English for international project communication.

Responsabilidades

  • Produce structural design calculations for solar tracker racking systems.
  • Review site conditions and perform preliminary structural calculations for project development and cost estimates.
  • Conduct wind, seismic, and foundation load analyses; prepare calculation packages; sign and seal as required.
  • Provide construction support, respond to RFIs, review submittals.
  • Develop know-how of Nextpower products to support design decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-regional teams to improve standards, specs, templates, and tools.
  • Manage schedules and review deliverables from external consultants.
  • Support process improvements and team development within Project Engineering.

About the Role

Nextpower is seeking a Structural Engineer I to join our Project Engineering Team in the Mexico City, Mexico office, supporting key accounts across the United States. This position is responsible for managing day-to-day structural engineering activities for utility-scale PV projects from the development phase through construction.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, wind load calculations, steel design and component sizing, foundation sizing, and the preparation of structural documentation to support project quoting and engineering packages. The role also involves close coordination with cross-functional teams in the United States, India, and other global offices, including Sales, Project Management, Mechanical Engineering, and R&D.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce structural design calculations for solar tracker racking systems.
  • Support project development by reviewing site conditions, performing preliminary structural calculations, and contributing to cost estimates.
  • Conduct structural analyses for wind, seismic, and foundation loads; prepare structural calculation packages; and sign and seal documents when required.
  • Provide construction support, including responding to RFIs (Requests for Information) and reviewing submittals.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of Nextpower products to make informed design and engineering decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-regional structural and civil engineering teams to maintain and improve design standards, specifications, templates, and tools.
  • Manage engineering schedules and review deliverables from external structural and civil consultants.
  • Contribute to the growth of Nextpower’s Project Engineering Team by supporting process improvement and team development efforts.
Required Skills/ Expertise
    • Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
    • 2 years of experience in structural engineering, preferably within the EPC solar industry.
    • Hands-on experience in structural analysis and design, including dead, live, snow, wind, and seismic load analysis; design of steel and concrete structures; and development of construction documents.
    • Strong knowledge of international engineering standards, codes, and other applicable state and federal regulations, including, but not limited to, IBC, ASCE, ASTM, AISC, AISI, and ACI.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), AutoCAD, and foundation analysis software such as LPile, AllPile, or equivalent.
    • Proficiency in finite element analysis software, such as RISA-3D, STAAD.Pro, OpenSees, or equivalent.
    • Experience with advanced modal and dynamic analysis is highly desirable.
    • Knowledge of programming languages, such as Python, is highly desirable.
    • Team-oriented, self-driven professional with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
    • Passion for renewable energy and the solar industry is highly desirable.
    • Fluency in English is required to communicate effectively with clients, manage international projects, and produce high-quality technical documentation.
