Walmart de México y Centroamérica seeks a Staff Software Engineer, Mobile Network Architecture & Connectivity to define and drive the architectural direction enabling Full Mobile Network Operator capabilities.
You will lead Telco architecture across CRM/BSS, OSS, provisioning, charging, SIM/eSIM, Mobile Core, IMS, and subscriber management, translating business needs into scalable, secure software platforms, with a strong emphasis on automation, observability and vendor collaboration.
We are a people-led, technology-enabled omnichannel company dedicated to helping people save money and live better.
In 2009, Walmart de México and Walmart Centroamérica began a new stage of growth and became one unified team. Since 2010, we have operated as Walmart de México y Centroamérica, one of the most important retail organizations in the region. Our omnichannel strategy is centered on our customers and focused on enhancing their shopping experience.
We operate in six countries: Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica.
We have 4,079 stores across the region, including 3,154 in Mexico and 925 in Central America. Today, more than 6 million customers shop in our stores and clubs every day throughout Mexico and Central America.
We continue to provide customers with the products they need at everyday low prices through a diverse portfolio of retail formats, each offering a unique value proposition. At the same time, we continue to accelerate our digital transformation strategy to better serve our customers and members across all channels and throughout every stage of their shopping journey.
We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Mobile Network Architecture & Connectivity to define and drive the technical architecture that will enable the evolution of our telecommunications ecosystem toward Full Mobile Network Operator (MNO) capabilities.
This is a senior individual contributor role for a technical leader who combines deep expertise in Telco architecture with a strong background in software and platform engineering. The ideal candidate understands telecommunications operations end-to-end and can translate complex Telco capabilities into modern, scalable, resilient, secure, observable, and highly automated technology platforms.
In this role, you will define the target architecture and technical roadmap across the Telco ecosystem, connecting digital customer experiences, CRM/BSS, provisioning, OSS, charging, SIM/eSIM, Mobile Core, IMS, subscriber management, policy control, network services, interconnection, and roaming.
You will establish how these capabilities should be structured, integrated, and operated, including system boundaries, ownership models, systems of record, APIs, events, data flows, integration patterns, and orchestration responsibilities. You will also help determine which strategic capabilities should be developed and owned internally, built in partnership with technology providers, or delivered through external vendors.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across engineering, architecture, product, operations, and external technology partners. You will influence critical architectural decisions, establish technical standards, evaluate vendor solutions, identify opportunities for capability internalization, and guide the modernization of Telco platforms.
This role is intended for a software and platform architect with deep Telco expertise, rather than a traditional network engineering profile.
The successful candidate will understand complex telecommunications platforms and network capabilities while approaching the ecosystem through a modern software and platform engineering lens. This includes defining clear ownership boundaries, designing reusable platform capabilities, establishing API and event models, reducing vendor coupling, enabling automation, and improving the observability and resilience of the overall Telco ecosystem.
We are looking for someone whose deepest area of expertise is Telco architecture, supported by strong experience in software engineering, platform architecture, cloud technologies, systems integration, and technical strategy.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable moving between the technical details of Mobile Core, IMS, BSS/OSS, provisioning, charging, subscriber management, interconnection, roaming, and vendor platforms, and broader architectural decisions involving platform ownership, system boundaries, orchestration, APIs, events, cloud, data, security, observability, automation, reliability, and scalability.
AI will be an important horizontal capability across the organization’s technology evolution. This position does not require an AI or Machine Learning specialist. However, the successful candidate should be able to identify where AI, data, and intelligent automation can create meaningful value across Telco architecture and operations and ensure that the appropriate platforms, integrations, telemetry, and data foundations are in place to support those use cases.
This position will play a key role in defining the technical capabilities the organization must build, own, integrate, and operate to advance toward Full MNO capabilities. The Staff Software Engineer will help create a Telco ecosystem in which software, cloud platforms, automation, data, and AI improve scalability, resilience, operational efficiency, customer experience, and internal engineering ownership.
