Job summary

Thomson Reuters in Mexico City is seeking a Lead Software Engineer AI (Staff Engineer AI) to drive technical direction for our CoCounsel team, building next-gen AI agentic tools for legal professionals.

You will lead a team of frontend and backend engineers, design scalable backend services in Python with FastAPI and PostgreSQL, and partner with Labs, product, and design to deliver production-ready AI features.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years in technical leadership and 3+ years building scalable cloud applications.
• Proficiency in Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and cloud services (AWS or Azure).
• Experience designing CI/CD pipelines for production web apps and automated testing.

Responsibilities

• Build and architect AI agentic driven systems with frontend/backend teams.
• Define service boundaries and scalable design patterns for the AI platform.
• Lead architecture decisions and mentor engineers across teams.
• Ensure testing, monitoring, and observability for AI systems at scale.
