Job summary

Meltwater is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer (Level 3/4) to scale and stabilize core platform services in a Node.js environment. You will drive initiatives around authentication, permissions, and provisioning while migrating services from JavaScript to TypeScript for better scalability and maintainability.

Expect ownership of end-to-end backend delivery and on-call reliability. You’ll work with product, frontend, and UX teams to implement scalable features, optimize performance, and reduce

Qualifications

• Experience building backend services in production environments.
• Strong proficiency in Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience with high-traffic or business-critical systems.
• Solid understanding of RESTful APIs; GraphQL is a plus.
• Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB).
• Knowledge of performance optimization techniques (caching, async processing).
• Experience with testing frameworks (Jest, Jasmine).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions preferred).
• Experience monitoring and operating production systems.
• Comfort working in distributed, cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and improve backend services that support company-wide functionality.
• Develop production-grade Node.js services using JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Migrate existing JavaScript services to TypeScript to improve scalability and maintainability.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks (caching, async processing, latency, throughput).
• Reduce technical debt and simplify service architecture for long-term efficiency.
• Improve system observability, monitoring, and operational readiness.
• Participate in on-call rotations to support production systems and ensure reliability.
• Collaborate with product, frontend, and UX teams to deliver scalable features.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, service design, and platform evolution.
• Own backend services end-to-end for Level 4.
