Job summary

HSBC is seeking a Senior Software Development Manager to lead the Americas API ecosystem from Toluca, Mexico. You will define engineering strategy, guide architecture, and build high-performing teams delivering secure, observable, and reliable APIs across the Americas.

You will partner with product, cybersecurity, data, and business leaders to align investments with customer value while ensuring production stability and regulatory compliance. Hybrid work arrangement is offered.

Qualifications

• Experience building and operating enterprise API or distributed platforms.
• Experience leading multiple engineering teams in a large/global organization.
• Deep knowledge of API design, microservices, cloud platforms, containers, CI/CD, observability, security and SRE.
• Strong understanding of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, mutual TLS, secrets and certificate management, threat modelling, rate limiting and zero-trust.
• Track record of modernizing complex platforms while maintaining production stability and control obligations.
• Ability to connect technical investment to customer, commercial, risk and productivity outcomes; able to communicate with executive stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Responsibilities

• Own the technical strategy and multi-year engineering roadmap for API platforms and lifecycle management.
• Lead architecture decisions for REST and event-driven interfaces, microservices, identity and access, and cloud-native deployment.
• Establish and govern API standards covering design, security, documentation, testing, and retirement.
• Create reusable platform capabilities and self-service workflows for publishing and consuming APIs.
• Lead design reviews, evaluate critical implementation choices, and coach engineers through incidents.
• Partner with product and business leaders to prioritize investments and define service-level objectives.
• Ensure engineering quality and operational readiness, including automated testing and CI/CD controls.
