Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a Software Engineer – Storage to help build and scale a high-performance object storage platform from Italy, with remote options. You will contribute across the stack—from client libraries to storage servers and edge networks—tackling distributed systems, uploads, caching, and performance.

You will collaborate across teams to improve APIs, tooling, observability, and storage workflows, while contributing to open-source components and ensuring reliable deployments at scale.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of backend engineering experience, including operating Node.js applications in production environments.
• Experience designing, building, or operating highly scalable distributed systems.
• Comfort working across the technology stack, including backend development and infrastructure deployment, monitoring, and scaling.
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana.
• Experience with performance tuning, production troubleshooting, and improving reliability of distributed services.
• Strong PostgreSQL production experience including tuning and troubleshooting.
• A demonstrated ownership mindset, able to drive projects independently from definition to delivery.
• A strong appreciation for developer experience and building reliable tools for developers.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, asynchronous, globally distributed team.

Responsibilities

• Enhance storage capabilities and analytics storage offerings including open file formats.
• Optimize asset delivery to improve speed and performance for websites and apps.
• Expand edge infrastructure to accelerate uploads and implement cache invalidation.
• Improve storage server performance, observability, scalability, and reliability.
• Develop storage exploration tools with frontend collaboration.
• Improve APIs, client libraries, and CLI tools for a seamless dev workflow.
• Strengthen upload/download reliability across clients and environments.
• Contribute to open-source storage server components and upstreams.
• Resolve escalated issues and implement systemic improvements to prevent recurrence.
• Work across backend, deployment, monitoring, and service operations as needed.
• Drive engineering initiatives end-to-end from problem to deployment and ongoing improvement.
