Job summary

Borgo Pignano Florence is seeking a skilled Maitre Sommelier to lead wine service and elevate guest experiences in a premium hospitality setting. The role includes curating the wine list, training staff, and providing expert recommendations to guests during service.

You will supervise service in absence of the Head of Department, collaborate with the restaurant and bar teams, and participate in wine-related promotions and events, ensuring excellence across all wine standards.

Qualifications

• Experience in wine service or hospitality with a focus on wine servicing.
• Basic knowledge of wines, grape varieties, regions and food pairings; WSET Level 1 or 2 is a plus.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a guest-focused approach.
• Fluency in English; additional languages are an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise the service in absence of the Head of Department.
• Assist in curating and updating the wine list.
• Provide knowledgeable recommendations to guests and wine pairings.
• Serve wine according to service standards with proper presentation and glassware.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the wine cellar.
• Monitor wine inventory levels and minimize waste.
• Assist in wine-related promotions and themed events.
• Train restaurant and bar staff on wine knowledge and service techniques.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and sanitation regulations for wine storage and service.
• Participate in tastings and share guest preferences and sales insights.
