Saipem in Italy is seeking an Automation Engineer to design, develop, test and commission automation systems and monitoring solutions for Pipelines in the Oil & Gas industry.

You will work in the Offshore Construction business line within the Pipelines Technologies Innovation department, travel abroad, and collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams.

The role requires a degree in automation engineering, 1–2 years of automation experience, PLC programming, and fluency in English and Italian.

Competenze

• Bachelor’s or Master in Automation Engineering or related disciplines (Mechatronics, Electronics, Computer Engineering).
• 1–2 years of experience in automation systems development and familiarity with at least one industrial automation platform (Beckhoff, B&R, Siemens or Rockwell).
• Strong knowledge of PLC‑based programming and object‑oriented programming.
• Good command of English (written and spoken) and full command of Italian.

• Design, develop and program PLC software and architectures, focusing on Structured Text (ST) control logic for industrial automation applications.
• Develop and test high‑level object‑oriented software (C++, C#, Python) to interface machines with data acquisition and supervisory systems; implement computer vision algorithms and develop graphical user interfaces.

Position Summary

Automation Engineer – Part of the Offshore Construction business line, working with the Pipelines Technologies Innovation department in Italy. The role involves design, development, testing and commissioning of automation systems and monitoring solutions for Pipelines in the Oil & Gas industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and program PLC software and architectures, focusing on Structured Text (ST) control logic for industrial automation applications.
• Develop and test high‑level object‑oriented software (C++, C#, Python) to interface machines with data acquisition and supervisory systems; implement computer vision algorithms and develop graphical user interfaces.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Automation Engineering or related disciplines (Mechatronics, Electronics, Computer Engineering).
• 1–2 years of experience in automation systems development and familiarity with at least one industrial automation platform (Beckhoff, B&R, Siemens or Rockwell).
• Strong knowledge of PLC‑based programming and object‑oriented programming.
• Good command of English (written and spoken) and full command of Italian.

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of PLC‑based programming and OOP.
• Knowledge of main industrial communication protocols (EtherCAT, CANopen, ProfiNet) and networking configuration.
• Design, configuration and test of motion control functions (drives, axes, motors).
• Basic knowledge of electronics, sensors, actuators and ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Capability to design and develop integration solutions for electronic components within automated systems.
• Basic knowledge of AI and Machine Learning approaches applied to industrial automation.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, a hands‑on approach to system integration and troubleshooting, and a teamwork attitude.

Travel & Working Conditions

Position requires availability to travel abroad and undertake short‑term international assignments.

Compensation & Benefits

• Permanent Contract – CCNL Energia e Petrolio.
• For home office contract: pay not lower than 43,000 €.
