Job summary

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Operation Theatre Technology / OT Technology or equivalent qualification.
• Clinical training or internship in an operation theatre.
• Previous hospital or surgical center experience preferred.
• Knowledge of surgical instruments, sterilization, infection control and OT procedures.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operation theatre before surgical procedures.
• Arrange and check surgical instruments, equipment, consumables and supplies.
• Ensure proper sterilization and availability of surgical instruments and equipment.
• Assist surgeons and nursing staff during surgical procedures as required.
• Maintain aseptic and sterile techniques inside the OT.
• Prepare and maintain surgical sets per planned procedure.
• Assist with patient positioning and preparation under the surgical team's direction.
• Handle surgical instruments safely during procedures.
• Check OT equipment function (suction, cautery, lights, monitors).
• Assist anesthesia team with equipment and supplies preparation.
• Maintain accurate records of procedures, instruments and consumables.
• Count instruments, needles and materials per hospital protocol.
• Clean and disinfect OT and equipment after procedures.
• Follow infection-control and hospital safety protocols.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare the operation theatre before surgical procedures.
• Arrange and check surgical instruments, equipment, consumables, and other required supplies.
• Ensure proper sterilization and availability of surgical instruments and equipment.
• Assist surgeons and nursing staff during surgical procedures as required.
• Maintain strict aseptic and sterile techniques inside the operation theatre.
• Prepare and maintain surgical sets according to the planned procedure.
• Assist with patient positioning and preparation under the direction of the surgical team.
• Handle surgical instruments safely and efficiently during procedures.
• Check the functioning of OT equipment, including suction machines, cautery units, lights, monitors, and other equipment.
• Assist the anesthesia team with preparation of required equipment and supplies.
• Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, instruments, and consumables.
• Perform counting of instruments, needles, and surgical materials according to hospital protocols.
• Clean and disinfect the OT and equipment after each procedure.
• Follow infection-control, biomedical-waste management, and hospital safety protocols.
• Ensure proper storage and maintenance of sterile instruments and supplies.
• Report damaged, missing, or malfunctioning equipment to the concerned supervisor.
• Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
• Assist during emergency and minor surgical procedures when required.
• Coordinate with CSSD, nursing, housekeeping, laboratory, and other departments as necessary.
• Perform other duties assigned by the OT In-charge or hospital management.

Required Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Operation Theatre Technology / OT Technology or an equivalent recognized qualification.
• Clinical training or internship in an operation theatre.
• Previous experience in a hospital or surgical center is preferred.
• Knowledge of surgical instruments, sterilization, infection control, and OT procedures.
