Job summary

River, a Bengaluru-based design company, seeks an experienced engineer to design chassis and structural sub-systems for multi-utility products. You will assess functional objectives, packaging, serviceability, and cost implications while delivering system-level targets and robust documentation.

The role requires 3–5 years in structural design for two-wheelers or similar projects, with knowledge of PLM platforms and CAD tools such as Dassault 3DExperience and SolidWorks.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years experience in structural design for two-wheelers or similar vehicles.
• Familiar with PLM platforms; Dassault 3DExperience is a plus.
• Understanding of DFM, DFA and DFS principles.
• Experience with sheet metal fabrication, forming and welding.

Responsibilities

• Design chassis and sub-systems.
• Analyze functional objectives and dependencies; study packaging, serviceability, assembly process and cost implications.
• Set system-level targets to meet function, quality and attribute requirements.
• Lead DFMEA/documentation and carry out Failure Mode Avoidance activities.
• Resolve design/packaging issues via cross-functional reviews.
• Generate VA/VE ideas to reduce material cost.
• Drive CAPA through root-cause investigations (8D, 5-Why).

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for designing the chassis and sub systems.
• Understand vehicle/sub system functional objectives, inter dependencies and study the packaging, serviceability, plant assembly process/ decking and cost implications.
• Define appropriate system-level engineering targets to meet function, quality and attribute requirements.
• Prepare Failure Mode Avoidance activities including DFMEA ensuring all relevant documentation
• Conduct the resolution of design, attribute or packaging incompatibilities through the appropriate cross-functional meetings.
• Generate and implement VA/VE ideas to reduce the product material cost.
• Drive root cause investigations for structural, packaging, and manufacturing defects and derive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) using 8D, 5-Why, etc.

Ideal Candidate

• Overall 3 to 5 years of experience in structural design and has been a part of the development of the chassis or other structural parts for a two wheeler.
• Relevant knowledge of PLM platforms. Experience with Dassault 3DExperience a plus.
• Good understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Serviceability(DFS).
• Well versed with the manufacturing aspects of the sheet metal fabrication, forming and welding.
• Basic understanding of TQM principles, Quality in Design Philosophy.
• Basic understanding of FEA analysis.
• Good knowledge on GD&T and well versed with modelling and drafting of drawings on solid works . This is a must.
• Understanding of vehicle systems and its dependency on vehicle parts and assembly parameters is a plus.
• College Design Competition Experience a plus (FSAE, BAJA, AERO SAE, SHELL ECO MARATHON, etc.)
