Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings for sheet metal components and assemblies.
  • Create/modify designs using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Prepare detailed fabrication and production drawings with dimensions, tolerances, and material specs.
  • Design sheet metal parts considering bend allowance, bend deduction, K-factor, bend radius, reliefs, and flat patterns.
  • Prepare DXF files/flat patterns for laser cutting and CNC punching.

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled Design Engineer with strong experience in sheet metal design and fabrication. The candidate should be proficient in SolidWorks and AutoCAD and capable of developing manufacturing-ready designs, 2D drawings, 3D models, and detailed fabrication drawings.

The ideal candidate will work closely with Production, Tool Room, Quality, Purchase, and Project teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and suitable for manufacturing.


Key Responsibilities
  • Develop 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings for sheet metal components and assemblies.
  • Create and modify designs using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Prepare detailed fabrication and production drawings with dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, and surface finish requirements.
  • Design sheet metal components considering bend allowance, bend deduction, K-factor, bend radius, reliefs, and flat patterns.
  • Prepare DXF files / flat patterns for laser cutting, CNC punching, and other sheet metal processes.
  • Design components considering manufacturing processes such as laser cutting, CNC punching, bending, welding, grinding, and assembly.
  • Prepare BOM (Bill of Materials) and material specifications.
  • Select appropriate materials, thicknesses, fasteners, and other components based on design requirements.
  • Interpret customer drawings, specifications, and engineering requirements.
  • Modify existing designs based on customer requirements, production feedback, and engineering changes.
  • Coordinate with the Production and Quality teams to resolve design and manufacturing issues.
  • Visit the shop floor when required to understand fabrication challenges and implement design improvements.
  • Conduct design reviews and ensure drawings are accurate and production-ready.
  • Maintain proper revision control of drawings and design documents.
  • Support prototype development, sample inspection, and new product development.
  • Identify opportunities for design optimization, material reduction, cost reduction, and improved manufacturability.
  • Ensure designs comply with company standards and applicable engineering requirements.
  • Maintain proper documentation of drawings, models, BOMs, and engineering changes.
Required Technical Skills
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Good knowledge of Sheet Metal Design in SolidWorks.
  • Good understanding of 2D drawings and 3D modelling.
  • Good understanding of sheet metal manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of laser cutting, CNC punching, press brake bending, welding, and fabrication.
  • Knowledge of different sheet metal materials such as MS, SS, GI, Aluminium, etc.
  • Understanding of BOM and material specifications.
  • Good knowledge of engineering drawing standards.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in designing enclosures, panels, brackets, cabinets, machine frames, electrical boxes, or fabricated assemblies.
  • Knowledge of DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly).
  • Experience with product development and prototype design.
  • Knowledge of ERP/PDM/PLM systems will be an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing cost estimation will be an added advantage.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Educational Qualification

Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related field.
