Job summary

COMSOL is seeking an Applications Engineer to join its team in India to support pre-sales and post-sales customers using COMSOL Multiphysics. The role emphasizes mastering low-frequency electromagnetics and numerical methods within engineering or physics disciplines, with in-office work in Bengaluru.

You will train customers, demonstrate simulations, and help run events across India, while mentoring other engineers and collaborating with sales and applications teams.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in engineering or physics with 1+ year experience in low-frequency electromagnetics modeling using numerical methods.
  • Understanding Maxwell's equations, modeling electrical machines such as motors, generators, transformers.
  • Strong problem solving, communication, and time management skills both on the phone and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-Sales: qualify leads, demonstrate simulations to prospects, and support customer workshops and meetings.
  • Post-Sales: assist customers in modeling using COMSOL Multiphysics for various applications.
  • Training & Mentoring: deliver introductory courses and mentor new applications engineers and sales engineers.
  • Travel for limited periods to current and potential customers in India to run events.

Applications Engineer: Low-frequency Electromagnetics Be a Part of Simulating Future Innovations and Ideas

COMSOL is seeking an Applications Engineer to join its Applications team to work with pre-sales and post-sales support of users of the COMSOL software. As a successful applicant, you are expected to have a well-rounded education within an engineering or scientific discipline and experience with simulating technical applications. With this basis, you will be expected to develop your technical proficiency in new areas of science and engineering as you help COMSOL s users simulate their future innovations and ideas. This is an in-office position.

Primary Responsibilities

Pre-Sales Leads Qualification and Prospect Support

Demonstrate the building of clear and understandable simulation examples for prospective customers on simulations of their applications.

Support prospective customers on the modeling of their applications with COMSOL Multiphysics .

Demonstrate use of the COMSOL Multiphysics software and summarize its features in web-based workshops and other marketing and sales events, along with customer meetings.

A willingness and ability to travel for limited periods of time to current and potential customers in order to run COMSOL-sponsored events and activities in India.

Post-Sales Technical Support

Support customers on use of the COMSOL Multiphysics software for their applications, which includes a variety of multiphysics applications involving other engineering disciplines.

Initiate and participate in subsequent sales opportunities to existing customers and other departments of existing customers.

Training and Mentoring

Develop your technical and simulation knowledge and abilities through working with presales and support cases both independently and in cooperation with other sales and applications engineers.

Run introductory training courses on COMSOL Multiphysics for new and existing customers.

Develop and mentor new applications engineers, technical account managers, and sales engineers on the COMSOL Multiphysics software and its uses in different application areas.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A master s degree in engineering or physics with one year or more experience in modeling low-frequency electromagnetics applications based on numerical methods.
  • An understanding and coursework experience with Maxwells equations, modelling, and analysis of electrical machines such as motors, generators, and transformers.
  • Logical problem-solving, strong interpersonal and communication skills on the phone, in person, and in writing. Strong organizational and time management skills, possesses a sense of urgency.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in engineering or physics with one year or more experience in modeling based on numerical methods, such as FEM, that has been gained as part of project work at a commercial organization, government research facility, or university.
  • Strong background in electromagnetics with a deep understanding of Maxwells equations and the physical mechanism behind the phenomenon. Experience with numerical methods and electromagnetics modeling in one or more of the following applications: generators and motors (such as permanent magnet motors, induction motors, axial flux motors, linear motors, etc.), electromechanical devices (such as solenoid plungers, electrical contactors, relays, circuit breakers, etc.), transformers (such as power transformers, instrumentation transformers, high-frequency transformers etc.).
  • Experience with power electronics, including modeling or design of converters, inverters, drives, or related power conversion systems, and an understanding of their interaction with electromagnetic components.
  • Experience with electric discharge phenomena, including modeling of arcs, sparks, corona, or partial discharge and their associated electromagnetic and thermal effects.
  • Experience working with COMSOL software.
