Job summary

COMSOL, Inc. is seeking an Applications Engineer to join its Applications team in Bengaluru, India. The role focuses on pre-sales and post-sales support for COMSOL Multiphysics users, requiring strong EM knowledge and numerical modeling skills.

The candidate will develop technical proficiency across new areas, demonstrate simulations to customers, and conduct web-based workshops while traveling occasionally within India to run events and assist customers with applications.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in engineering or physics with one year or more experience in modeling low-frequency electromagnetics based on numerical methods.
• PhD in engineering or physics with one year or more experience in numerical modeling such as FEM.
• Strong background in electromagnetics and Maxwell's equations.
• Experience with COMSOL Multiphysics for simulations and modeling.
• Willingness to travel for limited periods with customers in India.

Job description

COMSOL is seeking an Applications Engineer to join its Applications team to work with pre-sales and post-sales support of users of the COMSOL® software. As a successful applicant, you are expected to have a well-rounded education within an engineering or scientific discipline and experience with simulating technical applications. With this basis, you will be expected to develop your technical proficiency in new areas of science and engineering as you help COMSOL's users simulate their future innovations and ideas. This is an in-office position.

• Demonstrate the building of clear and understandable simulation examples for prospective customers on simulations of their applications.
• Support prospective customers on the modeling of their applications with COMSOL Multiphysics®.
• Demonstrate use of the COMSOL Multiphysics® software and summarize its features in web-based workshops and other marketing and sales events, along with customer meetings.
• A willingness and ability to travel for limited periods of time to current and potential customers in order to run COMSOL-sponsored events and activities in India.
• Support customers on use of the COMSOL Multiphysics® software for their applications, which includes a variety of multiphysics applications involving other engineering disciplines.
• Initiate and participate in subsequent sales opportunities to existing customers and other departments of existing customers.
• Develop your technical and simulation knowledge and abilities through working with presales and support cases both independently and in cooperation with other sales and applications engineers.
• Run introductory training courses on COMSOL Multiphysics for new and existing customers.
• Develop and mentor new applications engineers, technical account managers, and sales engineers on the COMSOL Multiphysics® software and its uses in different application areas.
• A master's degree in engineering or physics with one year or more experience in modeling low-frequency electromagnetics applications based on numerical methods.
• An understanding and coursework experience with Maxwell's equations, modelling, and analysis of electrical machines such as motors, generators, and transformers.
• Logical problem-solving, strong interpersonal and communication skills on the phone, in person, and in writing. Strong organizational and time management skills, possesses a sense of urgency.
• PhD in engineering or physics with one year or more experience in modeling based on numerical methods, such as FEM, that has been gained as part of project work at a commercial organization, government research facility, or university.
• Strong background in electromagnetics with a deep understanding of Maxwell's equations and the physical mechanism behind the phenomenon. Experience with numerical methods and electromagnetics modeling in one or more of the following applications: generators and motors (such as permanent magnet motors, induction motors, axial flux motors, linear motors, etc.), electromechanical devices (such as solenoid plungers, electrical contactors, relays, circuit breakers, etc.), transformers (such as power transformers, instrumentation transformers, high-frequency transformers etc.).
• Experience with power electronics, including modeling or design of converters, inverters, drives, or related power conversion systems, and an understanding of their interaction with electromagnetic components.
• Experience with electric discharge phenomena, including modeling of arcs, sparks, corona, or partial discharge and their associated electromagnetic and thermal effects.
• Experience working with COMSOL® software.
