Job summary

Apollo Hospitals in Bengaluru invites a Registrar – Microbiology to support diagnostic testing, specimen processing, and quality control in our microbiology department.

You will work under senior supervision, handle clinical specimens, perform routine tests, ensure biosafety, and collaborate with clinicians to interpret results.

Qualifications include MD Microbiology or DNB, 0–2 years of experience, and willingness to work in a hospital laboratory.

Qualifications

  • MD Microbiology or DNB with relevant pathology laboratory experience.
  • 0–2 years of clinical microbiology experience.
  • Willingness to work in a hospital laboratory and adhere to SOPs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in processing clinical specimens for microbiology investigations.
  • Perform or supervise routine microbiology tests as per qualification.
  • Handle specimens using appropriate biosafety procedures.
  • Assist with bacterial, fungal, parasitological, and other relevant investigations.
  • Perform culture, identification, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing as applicable.
  • Review laboratory findings and correlate results with clinical information.
  • Communicate critical or significant microbiology results promptly.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and reports.
  • Ensure proper specimen labeling, handling, storage, and disposal.
  • Follow laboratory SOPs, biosafety, and infection‑control protocols.
  • Participate in quality‑control and quality‑assurance activities.
  • Monitor laboratory equipment and report technical problems.
  • Maintain appropriate laboratory stocks, reagents, and consumables.
  • Support antimicrobial stewardship and infection‑control initiatives.
  • Coordinate with clinicians regarding relevant microbiological findings.
  • Participate in laboratory audits and accreditation activities.
  • Assist in training junior laboratory personnel and students.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and laboratory information.
  • Participate in research, academic, and continuing education activities.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the Microbiology Department Head.
