Job Description
A Registrar - General Surgery is responsible for providing clinical support in the assessment and management of surgical patients under the supervision of senior surgeons and consultants. The includes preoperative and postoperative care, patient monitoring, assisting in surgical procedures, emergency management, documentation, and coordination with the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Assess surgical patients and obtain relevant medical and surgical histories.
- Conduct physical examinations and clinical assessments.
- Assist consultants in diagnosing surgical conditions.
- Participate in preoperative evaluation and patient preparation.
- Review relevant laboratory, radiology, and diagnostic reports.
- Assist in developing and implementing surgical treatment plans.
- Monitor preoperative and postoperative patient condition.
- Assist surgeons during surgical procedures as assigned and within scope.
- Perform or assist with routine surgical procedures under appropriate supervision.
- Monitor wounds, drains, dressings, and postoperative recovery.
- Identify complications and promptly report clinical deterioration.
- Attend to surgical emergencies and assist with initial stabilization.
- Participate in ward rounds, surgical OPD, and clinical discussions.
- Coordinate with anesthesia, nursing, radiology, laboratory, and other departments.
- Maintain accurate case sheets, operative notes, progress notes, and clinical records.
- Prepare admission, discharge, referral, and postoperative documentation.
- Provide appropriate patient and caregiver instructions as directed by the treating team.
- Ensure proper clinical handover and continuity of patient care.
- Follow infection-control, surgical-safety, and patient-safety protocols.
- Participate in clinical audits, academic activities, and case presentations.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and professional standards.
- Follow hospital SOPs, surgical protocols, and applicable regulations.
