Job Description
General Surgery Registrar provides supervised clinical care to surgical patients under the guidance of consultants and senior surgeons. The includes patient assessment, preoperative and postoperative care, monitoring clinical condition, coordinating investigations, assisting in surgical procedures, supporting emergency surgical management, maintaining clinical documentation, participating in rounds, and coordinating with nursing, anaesthesia, laboratory, radiology, and other multidisciplinary teams.
- Assess surgical patients and document relevant medical history and clinical findings.
- Perform physical examinations appropriate to the patients condition.
- Assist consultants in evaluating and managing general surgical cases.
- Provide preoperative assessment and preparation under appropriate supervision.
- Review laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic investigation results.
- Monitor patients for clinical changes and postoperative complications.
- Assist surgeons during surgical procedures as trained and authorized.
- Participate in emergency surgical assessment and management.
- Assist with wound assessment, dressing, drains, and postoperative care.
- Monitor vital signs, fluid balance, pain, and treatment response.
- Maintain accurate case sheets, progress notes, operative records, and clinical documentation.
- Conduct ward rounds with consultants and the surgical team.
- Prepare discharge summaries, referral notes, and other clinical documents as directed.
- Coordinate investigations, procedures, and consultations with relevant departments.
- Coordinate with nursing, anaesthesia, OT, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, and ICU teams.
- Assist with patient admission, transfer, discharge, and referral processes.
- Communicate relevant clinical information to patients and attendants under appropriate supervision.
- Recognize deterioration and promptly elevate critical or complex cases.
- Participate in clinical audits, case discussions, teaching, and departmental activities.
- Maintain infection prevention, patient safety, confidentiality, dignity, and professional clinical standards.
