Job summary

Centre For Sight in India is seeking an Ophthalmic OT Technician to support the ophthalmic surgical team. The role involves preparing the operation theatre, ensuring sterile conditions and assisting surgeons and nursing staff during procedures.

Key duties include sterilization, instrument checks, patient positioning, documentation, and adherence to infection-control and safety protocols. Exposure to ophthalmic surgeries such as cataract procedures is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Operation Theatre Technology / DOT preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the OT before each surgical procedure, including equipment, instruments, consumables and surgical trays.
  • Ensure proper sterilization, disinfection and aseptic practices as per hospital protocols.
  • Assist the surgeon and nursing team during ophthalmic surgical procedures.
  • Arrange and check ophthalmic surgical instruments before and after procedures.
  • Operate and maintain OT equipment as per standard operating procedures.
  • Check availability and expiry dates of medicines, consumables, implants and other OT supplies.
  • Assist with preparation and positioning of patients for surgery.
  • Maintain proper documentation of surgical procedures, instruments, consumables and sterilization records.
  • Follow infection-prevention and biomedical-waste management protocols.
  • Ensure proper cleaning and turnover of the OT between surgical cases.
  • Handle surgical specimens, if applicable, according to established protocols.
  • Report equipment malfunction, shortage of consumables or any OT-related issue to the concerned supervisor.
  • Maintain OT inventory and coordinate with stores/pharmacy wherever required.
  • Follow patient-safety, fire-safety and emergency protocols.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to Centre For Sight's standards of patient care, professionalism, integrity and discipline.
  • Participate in internal training, audits and quality-improvement activities.

Job Purpose

To assist the ophthalmic surgical team in the safe, efficient and sterile conduct of surgical procedures by preparing the operation theatre, surgical instruments, equipment and consumables, maintaining infection-control standards, and providing appropriate assistance to surgeons and nursing staff.

Ophthalmic OT Responsibilities

The technician should preferably have exposure to ophthalmic procedures such as:

  • Phacoemulsification
  • SICS
  • LASIK / refractive procedures
  • Glaucoma procedures
  • Retinal procedures
  • Corneal procedures
  • Minor ophthalmic surgeries
