About the Role
As a Mid Data Engineer at RHIA, you will be a central contributor to our core data platform, which integrates disparate hotel systems into a unified source of truth. You will design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines that empower our hospitality clients with real-time intelligence and actionable analytics. This role is ideal for a collaborative problem-solver who is passionate about creating robust data infrastructure in a fast-paced, product-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and manage reliable and scalable data pipelines for batch and real-time data processing.
- Integrate data from diverse hospitality sources (e.g., Property Management Systems, Customer Relationship Management systems, booking engines, point-of-sale systems).
- Model data to support analytics, machine learning, and product features, ensuring data integrity and quality.
- Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and product teams to understand data requirements and deliver efficient solutions.
- Optimize data warehouse performance and queries for large-scale datasets.
- Implement and advocate for data governance, security, and documentation best practices.
- Monitor pipeline health, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability of our data services.
- Contribute to the evolution of our data architecture and technology stack.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience as a Data Engineer, with a track record of building and maintaining production data pipelines.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with relational and non-relational databases.
- Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud data platform (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
- Proficiency in a programming language commonly used in data engineering, such as Python or Java.
- Experience with data pipeline and workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Luigi, Prefect).
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and technologies (e.g., BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake).
- Understanding of data modeling principles (e.g., star schema, data vault).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving data issues.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team.
Nice to Have
- Experience with stream-processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, Spark Streaming).
- Knowledge of data integration from systems commonly used in the hospitality industry (e.g., Opera, Salesforce, Micros).
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Understanding of data privacy regulations relevant to the hospitality sector.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize scalable, real-time data pipelines to ingest structured and semi-structured data from diverse hospitality sources (e.g., Opera, Oracle Hospitality, John Paul, Sabre, ResDiary, SevenRooms).
- Implement and maintain data transformation logic to harmonize disparate hotel data models (guest profiles, reservations, revenue, service requests) into a unified, query-optimized schema.
- Build and manage cloud-based data warehousing and lakehouse solutions (e.g., on AWS, GCP, or Azure) tailored for hospitality analytics workloads.
- Develop and automate ETL/ELT processes to ensure data accuracy, freshness, and reliability across the RHIA platform.
- Collaborate closely with Solutions and Product teams to understand specific hotel operating data requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Implement data quality frameworks, monitoring, and alerting to proactively identify and resolve issues in data streams from partner integrations.
- Contribute to the foundational data architecture and governance practices as a key member of our small, high-impact data team, with a focus on hospitality industry compliance and semantic consistency.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional experience as a Data Engineer, with a proven track record of building and deploying production data pipelines.
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience using modern data frameworks (e.g., Apache Airflow, Spark, dbt, Kafka).
- Hands-on experience with cloud data services (AWS Glue/Redshift/S3, Google BigQuery, Azure Data Factory/Synapse) and data warehousing concepts.
- Practical understanding of data modeling, schema design, and performance tuning for analytical queries.
- Familiarity with integrating and processing data from APIs, streams, and batch sources common in tech ecosystems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment.
- A keen interest in the hospitality industry and a desire to solve concrete operational data challenges for hotels.
Nice to have
- Prior experience working with hospitality technology data formats (HTNG, HEDNA, OTA XML) or specific Property Management Systems (PMS).
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Power BI) and enabling analytics consumption.
- Knowledge of data security best practices and compliance frameworks relevant to the hospitality sector (e.g., PCI DSS, GDPR).
