Job summary

AP Management Consultants is seeking a proactive Mechanical Maintenance Engineer for our Coimbatore plant. You will oversee preventive and breakdown maintenance of rotating equipment, mixers, gearboxes, bearings and conveyors, ensuring high uptime and safety compliance.

The role requires a Diploma/B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, 3–8 years of hands-on experience, and the ability to read drawings, plan maintenance, and respond to breakdowns across shifts at the Coimbatore factory.

Qualifications

• Diploma or B.E. in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–8 years of mechanical maintenance experience in process manufacturing.
• Hands-on with rotating equipment and pneumatics.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and perform planned/breakdown maintenance.
• Willing to work in shifts at Coimbatore factory.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair mixers, gearboxes, bearings, seals and couplings; wear-part replacement.
• Maintain discharge gates, actuators, compressors, air lines, dust-collection dampers.
• Maintain stitching machines and packing equipment with emphasis on wear parts.
• Attend to mechanical breakdowns promptly and perform root-cause analysis.
• Plan and execute preventive maintenance and wear inspection schedules.
• Support welding, fabrication, installation and capacity additions.
• Ensure safe maintenance practices and accurate maintenance records.

Key Responsibilities

Machinery Maintenance & Breakdown

• Ploughshear & paddle mixers Maintain and repair the mixers & mechanical assemblies ploughshares, blades/liners, shafts, bearings, seals, gearboxes and couplings — and manage wear-part replacement on the abrasive cement-based line.
• Discharge & pneumatics — Maintain discharge gates/valves, air-operated actuators, compressors, air lines and dust-collection dampers.
• Packing & stitching machines — Maintain the mechanical side of automatic and manual stitching machines and packing equipment — needle/feed mechanisms and moving parts.
• Attend to mechanical breakdowns promptly to restore production, and carry out root-cause analysis to prevent recurrence.

Preventive & Predictive Maintenance

• Plan and execute preventive maintenance schedules — lubrication, bearing checks, alignment, tightening

and wear inspection — to maximise uptime.

• Monitor equipment condition (vibration, noise, wear, temperature) and act early to avoid failures on critical machines.
• Maintain a healthy stock of mechanical spares and wear parts, and coordinate procurement of critical items. Fabrication, Projects & Improvement
• Carry out welding, fabrication and minor mechanical modifications for repairs and improvements.
• Support installation, commissioning and alignment of new equipment and capacity additions.
• Drive improvements to reduce wear, downtime and maintenance cost across the plant. Safety, Compliance & Records
• Follow safe maintenance practices — lockout/tagout, work permits, safe isolation — and coordinate with the electrical team on shared equipment.
• Maintain maintenance records, breakdown logs, PM checklists and spares registers accurately.
• Support housekeeping, 5S and statutory mechanical compliance on the shop floor.

Candidate Profile

• Diploma / B.E. in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–8 years of mechanical maintenance experience, preferably in dry-mix, cement-based products, chemicals or a process manufacturing plant.
• Rotating equipment expertise — hands‑on with mixers, gearboxes, bearings, shafts, seals, couplings and material‑handling systems.
• Working knowledge of pneumatics, compressors and mechanical alignment; welding and fabrication ability.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and carry out planned and breakdown maintenance independently.
• Understanding of maintenance safety practices (LOTO, work permits) in an industrial environment.
• Willing to work in shifts and respond to breakdowns as required, based at the Coimbatore factory.
• Reliable, hands‑on and methodical, with good record‑keeping discipline.
