Job summary

AkzoNobel in India is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineering Officer in the Engineering department to oversee maintenance and reliability of plant equipment. You will manage preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance, supervise contractors, and ensure compliance with safety and statutory requirements.

The ideal candidate has BE/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with about 25 years of experience in mechanical maintenance and projects, with exposure to rotating and static equipment,

Qualifications

  • Education: BE/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, with strong fundamentals.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance and projects.
  • Exposure to preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance.
  • Experience with rotating and static equipment and related utilities.
  • Familiarity with SAP/CMMS and maintenance planning.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance of plant machinery and utilities.
  • Handle mechanical equipment including mixers, extruders, mills, blenders, conveyors, pumps and compressors.
  • Troubleshoot rotating and static equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor MTBF and MTTR for critical equipment and implement CBM and TBM maintenance.
  • Coordinate with contractors and cross-functional teams for maintenance and project execution.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and maintenance planning through SAP/CMMS.
  • Drive Kaizen, energy-saving and downtime-reduction initiatives.
  • Support installation, commissioning and troubleshooting of new equipment.

Job description

Purpose of the Job -

This role is part of the Engineering department, focused on maintenance and reliability of plant equipment. The Mechanical Engineering Officer is responsible for preventive and breakdown maintenance, execution of projects, supervision of contractors, and maintaining records related statutory and internal controls.

Role & responsibilities -

  • Responsible for preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance of plant machinery, equipment and utilities.
  • Handle mechanical equipment including mixers, extruders, mills, blenders, stackers, conveyors, pumps and compressors.
  • Troubleshoot rotating and static equipment to minimize plant downtime.
  • Monitor and improve MTBF and MTTR for critical equipment.
  • Implement CBM and TBM maintenance strategies.
  • Handle hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, bearing, alignment and vibration-related maintenance activities.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, GA drawings and equipment layouts.
  • Support installation, commissioning and troubleshooting of new equipment.
  • Execute mechanical projects and CAPEX activities within timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinate with contractors and cross-functional teams for maintenance and project execution.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and maintenance planning through SAP/CMMS.
  • Drive Kaizen, OEE improvement, energy-saving and downtime-reduction initiatives.
  • Conduct equipment health checks, audits and reliability improvement activities.
  • Ensure adherence to HSES, PTW, MOC, risk assessment and statutory requirements.
  • Support Process Safety Management (PSM) and maintain required maintenance documentation.

Preferred candidate profile

  • Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience: 25 years in Mechanical Maintenance & Projects, preferably in Powder Coating / Chemical / Process / Manufacturing Industry
  • Strong hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with rotating & static equipment such as pumps, compressors, mixers, conveyors, extruders, etc.
  • Knowledge of preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance.
  • Exposure to CMMS / SAP / maintenance planning.
  • Good understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic and utility systems.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, PTW and industrial maintenance practices.
  • Experience in contractor management and shop-floor execution.
  • Good problem-solving, analytical and communication skills.
