Job summary

Interface Microsystems is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to drive mechanical solutions for automotive electronic products, from concept to production. You will create Creo models, AutoCAD drawings, and support enclosure design, packaging, and layout optimization across cross-functional teams.

Qualified candidates have a 3–5 year track record in mechanical design for automotive electronics, with strong GD&T and DFMA knowledge, and excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field required.
  • 3–5 years of relevant mechanical design experience in automotive electronics or related domains.
  • Proficiency in Creo for 3D modeling and AutoCAD for 2D drafting.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, tolerancing and DFM/DFMA principles.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for automotive electronic products, ensuring manufacturability and cost targets.
  • Create, revise, and maintain 3D models in Creo and 2D drawings in AutoCAD per standards.
  • Support enclosure design, packaging, and layout optimization considering space, thermal, and assembly factors.
  • Apply GD&T, tolerancing and DFMA practices to improve quality and readiness.
  • Collaborate with hardware, electronics, validation, and manufacturing teams to define requirements and resolve issues.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams on tooling, prototyping, and production concerns.
  • Support prototypes, pilot runs and launches with design improvements as needed.

Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of automotive electronic products, including BCMs, ECUs, and sensors. This role is responsible for delivering robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective mechanical solutions from concept through production, while working closely with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, supplier, and validation teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for automotive electronic products, ensuring compliance with functional, manufacturability, and cost objectives.
  • Create, revise, and maintain 3D models in Creo and 2D drawings in AutoCAD in accordance with engineering standards and project requirements.
  • Support enclosure design, component packaging, and layout optimization for electronic systems with attention to space, thermal, structural, and assembly considerations.
  • Apply sound engineering practices related to GD&T, tolerancing, and DFM/DFA to improve product quality and production readiness.
  • Collaborate with hardware, electronics, validation, and manufacturing teams to define design requirements and resolve technical issues during development.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and internal manufacturing teams to address tooling, prototype, and production-related issues in a timely manner.
  • Support prototype builds, pilot runs, and production launches by investigating assembly concerns and implementing design improvements as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in mechanical design and development, preferably in automotive electronics or related product domains.
  • Proficiency in Creo for 3D modeling and AutoCAD for 2D drafting.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as plastics, die casting, and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Understanding of GD&T, tolerancing, and design for manufacturing/assembly principles.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing housing, enclosures, or packaging for BCMs, ECUs, sensors, or similar automotive electronic products.
  • Exposure to automotive development and validation requirements, including prototype and pilot build support.Role & responsibilities
