Catasynth Speciality Chemicals in India seeks an experienced Instrumentation Engineer to lead and supervise instrumentation activities across DCS/PLC/SCADA systems, ensure calibration programs, and maintain system integrity in safety-critical environments.

You will review P&IDs, instrument datasheets, and loop strategies, participate in HAZOP/LOPA/SIL assessments, coordinate with vendors, and drive preventive maintenance and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, refinery or process industries.
  • Strong knowledge of process instrumentation, interlocks, and loop tuning.
  • Familiarity with SIL, HAZOP, LOPA and change-management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain DCS, PLC, SCADA, ESD/SIS, and related control systems.
  • Ensure configuration, backup, modification control, and system reliability.
  • Coordinate with automation vendors for troubleshooting and upgrades.
  • Ensure accurate measurement and control of process parameters (pressure, temp, flow, level, pH).
  • Optimize control loops and tune PID strategies; review calibration programs.
  • Lead and supervise instrumentation engineers, technicians, and contractors.
  • Participate in HAZOP, LOPA, SIL assessments and management-of-change activities.
  • Review P&ID, instrument index, datasheets, hook-up drawings and loop diagrams.

Job description

Role & responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain DCS, PLC, SCADA, ESD/SIS, and related control systems.
  • Ensure proper configuration, backup, modification control, and system reliability.
  • Coordinate with automation/control-system vendors for troubleshooting and upgrades.
  • Ensure accurate measurement and control of pressure, temperature, flow, level, pH, conductivity, composition, and other process parameters.
  • Optimize control loops and minimize process disturbances.
  • Review and improve PID tuning and control strategies
  • Ensure availability and functional integrity of SIS/ESD systems, interlocks, alarms, and trips.
  • Coordinate proof testing and preventive maintenance of safety-critical instruments.
  • Participate in HAZOP, LOPA, SIL assessment, and management-of-change activities.
  • Supervise inspection, maintenance, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of control valves, actuators, positioners, and solenoid valves.
  • Analyze repeated valve failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Establish and maintain instrument calibration programs.
  • Ensure calibration records and certificates are properly maintained.
  • Ensure compliance with plant procedures, quality standards, and statutory requirements.
  • Review instrumentation engineering documents such as P&IDs, instrument index, datasheets, hook-up drawings, cable schedules, loop diagrams, and logic diagrams.
  • Participate in plant expansion, modification, debottlenecking, and automation projects.
  • Review specifications and technical offers from instrumentation vendors.
  • Lead and supervise instrumentation engineers, technicians, contractors, and vendors.
  • Identify critical instrumentation spares and maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Maintain accurate instrument databases, drawings, maintenance history, calibration records, and system backups.

Preferred candidate profile

  • Strong knowledge of process instrumentation (flow, level, pressure, temperature, analysers)
  • Expertise in control systems, interlocks, loop tuning
  • Knowledge of chemical process safety, SIL, and reliability engineering
  • Ability to read P&ID, loop diagrams, cause & effect diagrams.
  • Leadership, planning, and maintenance management skills
  • Minimum 12 years of experience within the eexperience in chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, refinery, specialty chemical, or process industries is highly valuable.
  • B.E./B.Tech in Instrumentation, Electronics & Instrumentation engineering
