Job summary

The American School of Bombay (ASB) is seeking a qualified Elementary School Teacher for Prekindergarten through Grade 1. The teacher will implement an inquiry-based instructional program aligned with the IB Primary Years Programme, building literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development while partnering with families to support student growth.

Design safe, engaging spaces, leverage technology, and collaborate with colleagues to advance school initiatives as part of ASB’s elementary team.

Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY

The Teacher implements a developmentally appropriate instructional program for learners from Prekindergarten through Grade 1. Grounded inquiry-based learning and aligned with the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), they build strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development. They partner with families to foster student growth, curiosity, and success. The teaching team is an integral part of the Elementary School community and contributes directly to the School's mission to develop the whole child.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and implement units of inquiry aligned with the PYP framework, ensuring vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment.
• Build foundational literacy based on the Science of Reading) and numeracy through explicit, systematic instruction integrated with play, exploration, and the arts.
• Adapt instruction and expectations to a wide developmental range using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and tiered supports, embedding social-emotional learning and self-regulation.
• Assess learning in line with ASB's assessment policy, using formative and summative evidence to monitor progress, refine instruction, and give feedback.
• Build strong family partnerships through regular communication and collaboration.
• Collaborate with colleagues to refine practice & advance departmental, divisional, & schoolwide initiatives.
• Document curriculum, assessments, and student learning in school-approved platforms
• Leverage technology purposefully to enhance engagement, reflection, and digital literacy.
• Design safe, purposeful learning spaces, indoors and outdoors, that promote independence, exploration, and fi ne and gross motor development.
• Establish predictable routines and a nurturing, well-managed classroom; supervise students throughout the school day.
