Job summary

TRATON MTBI in Pune is seeking an experienced Department Manager – Battery & Charging to lead and grow three engineering teams, aligning roadmaps with TRATON’s long-term objectives. The role emphasizes global collaboration with engineering and business stakeholders to deliver electrification solutions.

The position requires extensive leadership, a degree in engineering, and excellent English (C1). Willingness to undertake international assignments and operate in a fast-paced, agile environment

As a Department Manager – Battery & Charging, responsible for leading and developing teams focused on battery and charging systems for TRATON. The role involves defining technical roadmaps, ensuring successful execution of projects, driving continuous improvement, and fostering a culture of innovation and operational excellence. Adept at collaborating with global engineering, product management, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, efficient, and future-ready electrification solutions while supporting organizational growth and transformation.

To ensure that you will-

• Lead and develop an organization consisting of three teams delivering engineering capabilities within the TRATON Battery & Charging area, fostering a high-performing, collaborative, and inclusive culture.
• Define and execute the location strategy and roadmap, including organizational growth, competence development, recruitment, and infrastructure, aligned with TRATON's long-term objectives.
• Build strong partnerships with global stakeholders and development teams, strengthening intercultural collaboration and translating business needs into sustainable engineering solutions.
• Ensure the organization has the leadership, technical capabilities, and ways of working required to deliver high-quality results while balancing business priorities, technical constraints, and resource utilization.
• Develop the organization through clear structures, succession planning, coaching, and performance management, while identifying and nurturing future leaders.
• Drive continuous improvement by proactively managing organizational and technical risks, improving delivery performance, and ensuring the organization is prepared for future technologies and competence needs.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Motivated to take on an overseas assignment, with an open mindset, genuine curiosity for new cultures, and a passion for building trust-based global collaborations.
• Extensive leadership experience, including multiple management roles. You are likely currently a second-line manager or above or hold a VCT/VCF Triad role combined with previous line management experience.
• Excellent written and spoken English (minimum C1 proficiency).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, combined with a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset and creativity.
• Self-driven and proactive, with the ability to take initiative, drive progress, and follow through on commitments with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated ability to succeed in a fast-paced, agile product development environment.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present complex technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• A well-established network within Battery & Charging and/or VCF E-mobility in Group R&D is considered a strong advantage.
• To complement the overall composition of our planned expatriate assignments, we particularly encourage applications from candidates currently based in Sweden.

• This role is an Expat role planned for 2 years duration. This role reports to the India Managing Director, Ashish Dugar and works closely with Global teams.
