Qualifications

  • Diploma/B.Tech/B.E. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 4–7 years of BOM/production engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience with furniture manufacturing and BOM knowledge advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed BOMs for furniture products using metal and wood.
  • Develop BOMs from approved drawings, designs and specs.
  • Identify raw materials, hardware, fittings, and consumables.
  • Coordinate with Design, Production, Purchase, Stores, Quality, Costing teams.
  • Verify BOMs against drawings and production needs.
  • Revise BOMs when design/material changes occur.

Job Description Bill of Material (BOM) Engineer

Job Summary

We are looking for a Bill of Material (BOM) Engineer for our furniture manufacturing factory. The candidate will be responsible for preparing, maintaining, and controlling accurate BOMs for furniture products involving metal and wood fabrication. The role requires good knowledge of manufacturing processes, raw materials, hardware, fittings, and production requirements to ensure accurate material planning and minimize material wastage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed and accurate Bill of Materials (BOM) for furniture products manufactured using metal and wood.
  • Develop BOMs based on approved drawings, designs, specifications, and production requirements.
  • Identify and list all required raw materials, components, hardware, fittings, consumables, and accessories.
  • Calculate material quantities, dimensions, thicknesses, lengths, and required quantities for each component.
  • Coordinate with Design, Production, Purchase, Stores, Quality, and Costing teams for BOM accuracy and implementation.
  • Verify BOMs against approved drawings and actual production requirements.
  • Make necessary revisions in BOMs whenever there are changes in design, material, dimensions, specifications, or manufacturing processes.
  • Support the Purchase and Stores departments by providing accurate material requirements.
  • Assist in identifying material wastage, excess consumption, and opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Review actual material consumption against BOM and highlight deviations.
  • Work closely with the Quality team to ensure that materials and components specified in the BOM meet required specifications.

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Good knowledge of furniture manufacturing processes.
  • Have Knowledge of AutoCAD and solid works software.
  • Strong understanding of metal and wood fabrication.
  • Knowledge of metal cutting, bending, drilling, welding, grinding, and finishing processes.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, furniture drawings, and specifications.
  • Good knowledge of MS Excel for preparing and maintaining BOMs & Experience with ERP/MRP software will be an added advantage.
  • Good understanding of material dimensions, specifications, grades, thicknesses, and quantities.

Educational Qualification

  • Diploma / B.Tech / B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • Candidates with relevant experience in furniture manufacturing and strong BOM knowledge may also be considered.

Preferred Experience

  • 47 years of experience in BOM preparation, production engineering, material planning, or furniture manufacturing.
  • Experience in a furniture factory involving both metal and wooden fabrication will be preferred.
  • Candidates from furniture, modular furniture, office furniture, retail fixtures, display units, or similar manufacturing industries are preferred.
