Job summary

Boy N Cow Seminyak in Denpasar, Bali, is seeking an experienced Sommelier to join our hospitality team. You will curate, manage, and recommend our wine selection while engaging guests and enhancing their dining experience.

Responsibilities include developing wine knowledge, updating wine lists, training staff, managing inventory, and conducting tastings. A passion for wine and exceptional service is essential for success.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years' experience as sommelier or wine specialist in upscale venues.
• Deep knowledge of global wine regions, grape varieties, production techniques, and food pairing.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational and inventory management capabilities.
• Fluency in English; Indonesian/Mandarin/European languages are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Developing and maintaining extensive knowledge of wines, spirits, and beverages from around the world, including production methods, flavour profiles, and food pairing opportunities
• Creating and updating wine lists reflecting seasonal offerings and aligning with culinary philosophy
• Providing personalised wine and beverage recommendations to guests based on their preferences, dietary requirements, and budget considerations
• Training and mentoring bar and front-of-house staff on wine service standards, product knowledge, and upselling techniques
• Managing wine inventory, including ordering, stock rotation, and proper storage conditions
• Conducting wine tastings and educational events for guests to promote engagement and increase beverage sales
• Building relationships with wine suppliers, distributors, and producers to source quality products and secure competitive pricing
• Maintaining impeccable standards in wine service, including proper opening, decanting, serving temperature, and glassware selection
• Monitoring beverage costs and profit margins whilst maintaining quality standards

About the role

Boy N Cow Seminyak is seeking an experienced and passionate Sommelier to join our hospitality team in Denpasar, Bali. This is a full-time position based at our establishment, where you will play a crucial role in enhancing our guests' dining experiences through expert wine and beverage knowledge. As Sommelier, you will be responsible for curating, managing, and recommending our wine selection whilst building meaningful connections with our clientele. This role is integral to our commitment to delivering exceptional service and establishing Boy N Cow Seminyak as a destination for wine enthusiasts and discerning diners.

What we're looking for

• Minimum of 2-5 years' experience working as a Sommelier or wine specialist in upscale hospitality venues
• Comprehensive knowledge of global wine regions, grape varieties, production techniques, and food pairing principles
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage guests at all levels and adapt recommendations to individual needs
• Strong organisational and inventory management capabilities
• Proficiency in wine service techniques and understanding of proper storage and handling procedures
• Ability to work collaboratively with culinary and front-of-house teams
• Fluency in English (additional languages, particularly Indonesian, Mandarin, or European languages, are advantageous)
• Professional demeanour and commitment to delivering outstanding customer service
• Experience in fine dining or high-end restaurant environments is preferred
• Knowledge of the Bali hospitality market and international clientele preferences would be beneficial
