Job summary

About the role

We are seeking a skilled and sophisticated Wine Butler for Nonna Bona to join PT Mari Makan Semeja in South Jakarta. This is a full-time position that plays a pivotal role in delivering an exceptional beverage experience to our discerning clientele. As Wine Butler, you will be the custodian of our wine collection and the expert guide for our guests, ensuring that every interaction with our beverages reflects the premium quality and refinement that defines our establishment. This role is central to our commitment to hospitality excellence and contributes significantly to creating memorable dining experiences that keep our guests returning.

What you’ll be doing

• Curating, maintaining and managing the wine collection, including inventory control, storage conditions and organisation of the cellar
• Providing knowledgeable and personalised wine recommendations to guests based on their preferences, dietary requirements and food pairings
• Training and mentoring bar and service staff on wine knowledge, tasting techniques and service protocols
• Conducting wine tastings and educational events to enhance guest appreciation and engagement
• Overseeing the proper service of wine, including decanting, temperature control and glassware selection
• Developing and updating wine lists and pairing menus in collaboration with culinary teams
• Building relationships with wine suppliers, negotiating purchases and sourcing exceptional selections
• Maintaining detailed records of wine stock, costs and sales performance
• Ensuring compliance with all health, safety and licensing regulations related to beverage service

What we’re looking for

• Extensive knowledge of wines from around the world, including production methods, regions, grape varieties and flavour profiles
• Formal wine qualification such as WSET Level 3 or higher, or equivalent professional certification
• Minimum 5 years of experience in wine service, sommelier roles or beverage management in luxury hospitality settingsDemonstrated expertise in wine and food pairing with the ability to communicate complex concepts accessibly to guests
• Proficiency in wine service protocols and cellar management best practices
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a passion for guest education and satisfaction
• Strong organisational and inventory management abilities
• Fluency in English and Indonesian; additional languages are advantageous
• Professional demeanour, attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with point-of-sale systems and wine inventory software is preferred
