Job summary

MatchaTalent is seeking a senior R&D Formulation Manager – Personal Care in Tangerang, Indonesia. You will lead the development of new formulations from scratch across skincare, haircare, and body care, with emphasis on innovative concepts rather than minor reformulations.

You will build and mentor Indonesia’s local R&D formulation team, establish development processes, and oversee trials, stability testing, and scale-up to mass production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Cosmetology, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
• 7–10 years hands-on formulation experience in cosmetic/personal care manufacturing.
• Proven portfolio of successful formulation innovation across skincare, haircare or body care.
• Proven experience leading an R&D formulation team at managerial level.
• Strong expertise in emulsion technology, surfactant chemistry, active ingredients, and formulation optimization.
• Experience with accelerated and real-time stability testing, compatibility testing, and validation.
• Proven experience scaling up from lab/pilot to mass production.
• Familiarity with Asian personal care raw material supply chains, especially Mainland China.
• Knowledge of cosmetic regulatory standards including BPOM Indonesia and/or NMPA China.
• Fluency in Mandarin Chinese (spoken and written).
• Indonesian candidates with strong Mandarin; Mainland Chinese candidates encouraged to relocate.

Responsibilities

• Lead formulation research and product innovation from concept to production-ready formulas.
• Identify new product opportunities through materials trends and active ingredients.
• Design and oversee laboratory trials, formula optimization, compatibility testing, validation.
• Manage accelerated and real-time stability testing to meet quality standards.
• Lead technical scale-up from laboratory and pilot batches to mass production.
• Develop formulations for skincare, haircare, and body care categories.
• Support formulation development for fragrance and body care lines.
• Evaluate new materials and ingredients, engaging with suppliers and partners.
• Maintain formulation documentation, FDFs, and testing data, ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with QA/QC, Production, Marketing, and Procurement.
