The role
As a Project Accountant, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. A pivotal role in support of a Private Public Partnership operating across a 30-year concession, in delivery of a subcontract worth over £2bn at the point of award.
Day-to-day, you’ll report to the Head of Finance, and closely support the Head of Programmes, with a focus on increased fidelity and financial performance and controls in relation to risk management, reporting, cash generation, budgeting and forecasting. You’ll be responsible for
Reporting of the contract monthly accounts, budgets, forecasts and strategic plans.
Identifying and targeting opportunities to improve the cash performance, financial performance and service delivery of the contract across its remaining term.
Preparation of key financial data in support of customer and stakeholder management.
Financial modelling, validation and update across various models, including tracking and reporting performance, challenging operational assumptions and identifying leading indicators / actions to be addressed.
Ensuring billing is accurate and timely and provide support to pricing activity and the associated governance process.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based at Chatham. Some travel to other sites is required (Minley, Hampshire and Portsmouth).
Essential experience of the Project Accountant
Experience in a similar role that involved owning the production of timely and technically accurate contract accounts and reporting, forecasts and strategic plans including commentary and variance analysis.
Stakeholder experience with the ability to maintain a close working relationship at all levels.
Previous experience of reconciliation of operational data to that reflected in the accounts and on other ancillary source data systems.
Experience in construction industry or defence industry with Long Term Contract Accounting.
Strong financial modelling skills utilising Excel.
Qualifications for the Project Accountant
Recognised professional qualification and significant post qualification experience.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
