An opportunity has arisen within our busy Regional Urology Diagnostics and Outpatients departments based in Outpatients 3 and Ward 13 at Royal Liverpool and Aintree sites of Liverpool University Hospitals. We are looking for several enthusiastic, motivated, flexible and hardworking HCA Band 3 staff to join our team and provide a service to all Urology patients.

• Escort patients through the diagnostic process and assist with diagnostic procedures, including flexible cystoscopy, diathermy equipment and biopsies.
• Perform flow rate and residual scanning; assist the throughput of clinic with general and oncology patients; support medical and nursing teams with general HCA duties.
• Assist consultants and nursing staff in performing diagnostic procedures including transperineal biopsy, transurethral laser ablation, Botox, stent removal and dilatation, and diathermy flexible cystoscopy.
• Set up environment and equipment; assist with safe collection and transport of biopsies pre- and post-procedure.
• Assist with clinical duties including urinalysis, uroflowmetry and bladder scanning; order equipment specific to unit needs.
• Assist patients with positioning to ensure safety and comfort; ensure equipment and processes comply with local guidelines.
• Contribute to the trust-wide information about the LUHFT group and its services as applicable to the unit.
• Provide general ward/department duties as delegated by a registered nurse and maintain high standards of patient care.
• Chaperone and escort patients within the clinical department and to other hospitals for investigations.
• Perform general and clinical observations (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration rate, oxygen saturation, peak flow) and report any concerns to registered nursing staff.
• Undertake blood glucose monitoring and venepuncture as directed by the registered nurse; document care in patient records.
• Provide support to new and junior staff; assist with clerical duties as needed to ensure smooth service delivery.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment; safe disposal of clinical waste and sharps; uphold Trust policies for incident reporting.
• Attend to visitors and patients who may be distressed or bereaved; manage patient property in accordance with Trust policy.
• Obtain demographic details and social history to assist in the admission process; perform reception/telephone duties and basic computer tasks as required.
• Arrange and maintain stock levels of supplies and assist in caring for patients and preparing environments for treatments and investigations.
• Prepare patients for treatments or procedures, support recovery, and assist in resuscitation if required under supervision of a registered nurse.
• Support the development of Essence of Care and benchmarking; promote effective communication within the multidisciplinary team.
• Contribute to the management of aggressive or abusive behaviour and ensure a respectful workplace for staff and patients.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control practices and trust policies at all times.

• Band 3 Healthcare Assistant competencies as required for the role; ability to work in a fast-paced, progressive service.
• Willingness to undertake a range of tasks delegated by a registered nurse; ability to work under supervision and direct guidance.
• Commitment to patient dignity, safety and high-quality care; good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to follow Trust policies and procedures and participate in mandatory training and development as identified in PDP.
