Job summary

A regional health service provider is looking for a Higher Assistant Psychologist to serve the Hambleton area in North Yorkshire. The role involves providing psychological wellbeing interventions and engaging in service development projects within a supportive multidisciplinary team. Candidates should hold a degree in psychology and have experience working in relevant settings. Training and supervision will be provided. The successful applicant must have access to suitable transportation for traveling within a large geographical area.

Higher Assistant Psychologist

We are excited to be offering a Higher Assistant Psychologist post within the East Integrated Community Mental Health Team. This post will provide services to the Hambleton area of North Yorkshire and be based at North Moor House in Northallerton.

We are a service that strives to deliver excellent standards of care to individuals with mild to moderate to severe and complex mental health problems. We are looking for a highly motivated practitioner with an interest in Adult Mental Health, however further specialist training and supervision will be provided to the successful candidates.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide specialist psychological wellbeing interventions both 1:1 and group, formulation and be part of an MDT approach. Alongside direct clinical work, there are opportunities to engage in service development projects.

The successful candidates will work as a member of the community multi-disciplinary team providing a service to Adults experiencing mental health difficulties.

You will be a valuable part of the service working with a supportive team of nurses, doctors, occupational therapists, support workers, social workers, pharmacists and psychologists.

You will receive individual and group clinical supervision, as well as regular safeguarding supervision, line management supervision and personal and professional development through the appraisal process.

Due to the nature of the role and the large geographical area covered, it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Degree in psychology
  • Eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
  • Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice, youth work, work with offenders and/or research design and analysis
Experience
  • Experience working as an assistant psychologist (or equivalent)
  • Previous involvement in clinical audit, research or service evaluation
  • Experience using statistical software packages e.g. SPSS
  • Experience of using psychometric assessments
  • Experience working with people using services in psychological, mental health and/or social care settings. This may include, for example, personal experience or supporting a family member to access services
  • Experience of communicating sensitive information
  • Experience of work interacting with the public
  • Experience in discussing and responding to issues related to cultural diversity, intersectionality and inclusivity, including working with vulnerable groups (e.g. those for whom English is not their first language)
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of increasing access to psychological services/healthcare for minoritized communities
Knowledge
  • An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental ill health or learning disabilities.
  • An understanding of the application of psychology to health care.
  • Understanding of confidentiality
  • Knowledge of the British Psychological Society Code of Conduct
  • An ability to apply psychological knowledge to the population described in the job advert
  • Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Awareness of systemic barriers to accessing psychological services/healthcare for minoritized communities
Skills
