Job description

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service are offering the opportunity for suitably qualified Fire Safety Inspector, in line with the NFCC competency framework, to apply for the talent pool within the Protection Team. This is an exciting chance for motivated individuals to further their career and contribute to the ongoing success of our fire safety initiatives. Successful candidates will play a vital role in supporting our commitment to high standards of protection across the county. Applications are open for the Grey Book Crew and Watch Managers and Green Book positions within the Protection Team. Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service is committed to the ethical principles laid out in the Core Code of Ethics. This will be reflected throughout this promotion process. You are required to provide a short statement on your understanding of safeguarding. This should be no more than 200 words and will not be scored as part of the overall process although it must demonstrate a sound understanding of the safeguarding process. Selection Process: The selection process will consist of both application screening and an interview, which will include a presentation on a specified topic. Those who are successful at this stage will be included in the Protection Talent Pool. Membership of this pool is a crucial part of succession planning to ensure that a range of positions, expected to become available over the next 12 months due to retirement, can be filled efficiently and effectively. Please be aware that this is a talent pool process – being successful and gaining a position in the talent pool does not guarantee you will be selected for a permanent position. The talent pool will be held for 12 months at which point it will be reviewed.

Any offer of employment made following this process will be conditional, dependent on the successful completion of relevant pre‑employment checks including enhanced DBS. Salary: Cornwall Council Grade 3 Green Book or Crew and Watch Manager rates as appropriate. Commencement in Role: As required over the 12 months following the completion of the process. This position is open to both internal and external candidates. Grey and Green Book applications are sought from suitably qualified Grey (Crew & Watch Manager) and Green Book personnel who hold Level 4 certificate (Fire Auditors) or Level 4 Diploma in fire safety.

Key Requirements
  • Hold a current Level 4 certificate (Fire Auditors) or Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety, in accordance with the NFCC competency framework.
  • Internal candidates should have successfully completed the CFRS Crew/Watch Manager talent pool process or be a substantive Crew/Manager with a lateral move request submitted for this position prior to the application opening.
  • Staff must have a current and valid fitness assessment. (Grey Book only).
  • Successfully completed IC Level 1 training. (Grey Book only).
  • Full, valid UK driving license.
  • Strong report writing, IT and organisational skills.
