Job summary

Autotech Recruit Ltd. is seeking a capable Workshop Controller for a busy franchised dealership in Taunton. You will lead the day-to-day running of the workshop, allocate work, monitor productivity and ensure high-quality workmanship while delivering excellent customer satisfaction.

This role suits an experienced Workshop Controller, Senior Technician or Aftersales professional seeking progression within a forward‑thinking automotive retailer. 45 hours per week, salary up to £38,836 per annum.

Qualifications

  • Experience in an automotive workshop or aftersales environment.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and people management abilities.
  • Full UK driving licence preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the efficient day-to-day operation of the workshop.
  • Maximise workshop productivity, profitability, and technician utilisation.
  • Allocate work effectively based on technician skill sets and workshop capacity.
  • Monitor workshop loading and workflow to ensure deadlines are achieved.
  • Support technicians with technical queries and operational challenges.
  • Maintain workshop quality standards and ensure repairs are completed right first time.
  • Drive vehicle health check performance and aftersales opportunities.
  • Ensure warranty and goodwill claims are processed in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Support achievement of workshop sales, labour targets, and key performance indicators.
  • Promote a culture of quality, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.

Workshop Controller – Taunton Lead a High-Performing Automotive Workshop
Location: Taunton
Salary: Up to £38,836 per annum
Hours: 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Workshop Controller to join a busy franchised dealership operation in Taunton.

This key leadership position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of the workshop, ensuring maximum productivity, efficient job allocation, high-quality workmanship, and exceptional customer satisfaction. Working closely with the Aftersales leadership team, you will play a pivotal role in driving workshop performance, supporting technicians, and maintaining operational excellence.

What We’re Looking For
  • Previous experience within an automotive workshop or aftersales environment
  • Experience as a Workshop Controller, Workshop Supervisor, Senior Technician, or similar leadership role
  • Strong technical understanding of vehicle servicing, maintenance, and repairs
  • Excellent organisational and workload planning skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
  • Good IT and administrative skills
  • Full UK driving licence preferred
