Job summary

The Dunstable Library, operated by Central Bedfordshire Council within The Dunstable Centre, seeks a part-time Customer Service Assistant to deliver frontline help with technology and information.

The role covers children's and adults' activities, helping with stock and events, and supporting library modernisation. Four hours weekly on weekends with coverage across South Area libraries; UK right to work is required.

Qualifications

• Front-line customer service experience with the public.
• Good IT skills to help customers use self-service terminals, computers, tablets and printing.
• Interest in books, reading and information.
• Strong communication and a welcoming, friendly environment.
• Right to work in the UK; fluent English.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a high standard of customer service to library users.
• Help customers use self-service terminals, computers, tablets and library apps.
• Assist customers in finding books and information.
• Lead and participate in children's and adults' activities (Rhymetimes, Story time).
• Move, shelve and handle large quantities of library stock.
• Support events, school visits and assemblies, including out-of-hours events.
• Promote the library and encourage its use within Library Strategy priorities.
• Engage new and existing customers to increase library usage.
• Support the modernisation and transformation of the library service.
• Work at other South Area libraries when required.
