Job Summary

With the centralising of REG income, we now have the opportunity to strategically target some of this resource to employ a dedicated Web Editorial and Content Assistant focused on research to curate a suite of content that shines a light on the world-leading and internationally excellent research carried out at RGU.

Your role will be to provide University-wide support and deliver on all aspects of website content related to RGU's research portfolio by supporting our academics to strategically produce compelling external-facing content for a range of audiences that evidences our research impact and infrastructure for REF 2029.

With a First Degree in either Marketing, Computing or related discipline, you should also have demonstrable experience in web editorial or digital marketing and communications, including planning and organising digital content for communications and marketing purposes, and proficient use of web technologies such as Content Management Systems within a commercial environment.

Job Description

RESPONSIBLE TO: Senior Web Editor

RESPONSIBLE FOR: No supervisory responsibility

PURPOSE OF POST: To provide business-critical support to enhance, develop and manage the web content of our research and knowledge exchange portfolio, maximising the positive difference that RGU's research makes to the wider society and economy. The role will specifically focus on ensuring RGU's messaging and web materials are fit for purpose in preparation for the Research Excellence Framework 2029.

With the centralising of REG income, we now have the opportunity to strategically target some of this resource to employ a dedicated Web Editorial and Content Assistant (Research) focused on research to curate a suite of content that shines a light on the world-leading and internationally excellent research carried out at RGU.

The role will provide University-wide support and deliver on all aspects of website content related to RGU's research portfolio by supporting our academics to strategically produce compelling external-facing content for a range of audiences that evidences our research impact and infrastructure for REF 2029.The postholder will work closely with the Director of External Affairs, the Head of Research Strategy, Culture and Performance and target support to the following:

  • Associate Deans for Research in each of the seven academic schools
  • Interdisciplinary Research Theme Leads
  • REF Unit of Assessment Leads
  • Members of RGU's REF Governance Groups
  • Directors of Research Centres to be established in 2025/26

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • With academics, co-develop, write, produce and edit engaging content for use across a range of digital and non-digital platforms.
  • Assist in the development, delivery and review of RGU's research website content in time for REF 2029.
  • Ensure that all materials pertaining to research at RGU are updated and, where appropriate, are made publicly available on RGU's website.
  • Participate in Research Committee meetings to provide progress updates
  • Be a central point of contact for the website and other digital platforms
  • Build effective working relationships with colleagues across the University
  • Quality check digital content and ensure alignment with brand guidelines
  • Develop extensive knowledge and understanding of the services that RGU offers, ensuring that website content is driven towards delivering strategic objectives
  • Ensure digital content is accessible, user-friendly and compliant with guidelines and regulations
  • Assist in providing central governance and advice for colleagues involved in the wider University web presence
  • Stay up to date with the latest web and digital content trends and best practice
  • Provide support for the delivery of social media and email communications
  • Ensure that University information on 3rd party websites is up to date and accurate
  • Use analytics packages to produce reports about digital content performance
